I was burning two fires today, in very hot conditions and with a bit of wind, and I got to thinking. We burn to get rid of moribund grass, the grass that is dry and matted and restricts new growth. Animals won't graze it, and we need to replicate natural conditions like lightning strikes that used to be the way veld maintained itself. Fire also destroys weeds and allows for new growth. Our walk is a bit like that. We need to burn off the old accumulated stuff to make way for the new. We need to plan for this, just as we plan burns, taking into account wind, dew point, humidity, fire loads, etc. We need to renew ourselves every now and again. We need to plan for this through prayer and some introspection, looking at what we know needs burning away to reveal a new heart. Mat 3:10 Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. How is your fruit looking today?
