Where does it say that conclusion in Mark 16. You say tongues is a gift, which I would agree then, but so is the gift of healing but they are in the same verse and do not differentiate except in your explanation. Another above, not you, stated that tongues was an excise of faith, that is the problem with those who say they speak in this prayer language which they cannot support with a proof text. They have many different answers for the same gift that they say they use.

The 3 times tongues is shown in Acts 2, 10, and 19 can just as easily and more so by their context show the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at first as the Lord said at Pentecost, the bringing in of the Gentiles in chapter 10 and going to uttermost part of the then known world. Besides I would not say 3000 being saved and each speaking in different languages would not have made print, if it had happened. Summing it up, each must be fully persuaded in their own mind. I keep reading from those that say they have this prayer language, which they readily admit they don't understand but their spirit is edified, which none can identify why that can help them or anyone else, and I wonder how they know where it comes from? If only they could point to the same text and everyone be able to read it and come to the same conclusion. To each their own.

You are not understanding what I meant by a gift. I am not meaning a gift, like the gifts. I mean a gift like the gift of salvation. When the 3000 were baptized in the book of Acts, I have no reason to think they didn't all speak in tongues. Just because it doesn't mention it, that doesn't mean they didn't do it.

How does praying in tongues edify the person praying? Because the Spirit prays for them, according to the will of God. Whenever I pray in tongues, the result is a desire to praise the Lord afterward. That does edify the one praying.

Each of us speaks according to our own experience and our own knowledge. I don't rely on others to figure out what the Bible is teaching. I spend my own time studying scripture.

Rom 8:26-27 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

This is the passage in Romans and I use it frequently but as I understand it, the Holy Spirit makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered, so all I do is thank Him for His intercession which He will pray for me according to the will of God on that matter. Why do you think it says He prays with groanings which cannot be uttered, does that not mean, no sound? Just curious.

I have never heard anyone groan silently. I just take this to mean that it is not with speech that I would be able to utter, because I don't fully know the mind of God. The Spirit does, so he prays for me according to the Father's will. How can he intercede without speaking?

It does not say He doesn't speak, it says it cannot be heard by others, He speaks to God, after all that is who prayer is directed toward. No where does it say He is speaking through anyone. But if anyone wants to, it would be more scriptural to groan rather than to make some form of speech.

In Acts, we see tongues being used as to speak to the unsaved in their own language. They heard and were saved.

In 1 Corinthians 12, we see that tongues and the interpretation of tongues is used in the church. They both have to work together, or the one speaking in tongues is to be silent, unless through prayer they receive the interpretation.

Then there is when we are personally praying, when we pray in tongues, this is when the Holy Spirit is praying for us, for we know not what we should pray for. The following will prove that we do pray in tongues.

Romans 8:26-27

Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

1 Corinthians 14:13-17

Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding. Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the uninformed say “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not understand what you say? For you indeed give thanks well, but the other is not edified.

Excluding tongues from our lives is like excluding any other gift from the Spirit. Be careful not to grieve the Spirit just because you think this gift is not for today.

Mark 16:15-18

And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

In order to disprove this verse, one would need to know every single saved person there ever was, is and will be, have their full history of their lives and show that this never happened. Jesus did not say that every believer will exercise all these signs, just that these are signs of those who do believe. Just like every gift of the Spirit, He gives to those whom He wills.

Allofgrace:

I mentioned the 16 chapter of Mark because I have read that reference here in this discussion as proof but they never mention if they have survived those poisonous snake bites and like you stated about the healing of the sick you lay the blame on their faith. The verse says they will recover, how come it is that they have the faith for the tongues, but not for the many healings that should follow?

I explained all this in my post to you. I covered the difference in Mark 16 with the gifts of Healing. Ignoring answers is part of the issue with this thread. Listen to those that know, have been around this a long time. Get light, not oppose with confusion.

Mark 16 says if you believe in Jesus, then these signs shall follow you. If you lay hands on the sick they shall recover, they shall speak new tongues.

If you fall short of this, it's not the scriptures fault, not those who through faith and patience that have inherited these promises, it's you needing to learn more and get more revelation. This constant questioning will only keep God's best from you. Don't do it!!!

Jesus Is Lord.

I did read but do not agree with all of it. You like others pass over what is written and exclude tongues from some passages and include it where it is not mentioned in another. Healings are like emotions in so many cases, what one says has happened, shortly disappears in most cases that I am aware of like those who walk in emotions, once the emotions leave their faith weakens. Mark 16 says "these signs shall follow them that believe" and it does not exclude any that believe if you read the print. I am content to let it rest. No one that believes in this prayer language which they do not understood has as yet tried to explain how it benefits them if they do not know what is being said. I go with Paul said when he said I had rather speak 5 words that I understand than 10,000 words that I or anyone else doesn't understand because no one is edified. That just makes more sense to me. If anyone feels otherwise, that is their business but that does not mean on open forums and in public that I have to agree with them. After all, Paul also said, let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

It is called faith. We don't know what the Holy Spirit prays for, we just trust that it is for the best. Are we trust God with our lives, but not with His praying for us? Why do we have to know what is being said.asked?

Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

We have this very same faith when it comes to praying in the Spirit. We don't need to know what is being said to know that it is for our good. Do we know what God is going to do in our future when we pray in our own tongue? No, we have faith that His will will be done. Take one more step in faith and know that what the Holy Spirit prays for us will never harm us. Again, we don't have to know what is being said to know it is of God.

I have a question about what the hopes in "winning" this discussion. . . I know there are some whom believe unless you speak in tongues your not going to heaven, but in such a teaching, what is the hope? To keep more out of heaven? Were to rejoice when someone gives their life to Christ, and be accepting as Christ is, that they are partakers into the kingdom, not set upon them a spiritual barrier. Let the Word of God be upon all of you, leading you into the truth of the justice of God, Amen.

I acknowledged above before that claiming that verse by faith is a blessing, but can be achieved by faith in trusting that the Holy Spirit will do as He said He would do, why is it necessary for you to say anything except thank you for interceding on my behalf, that's what many Christians do. As I said, to each his own.

I am not of the school who claim one needs to speak in tongues to enter heaven. That is a doctrinal teaching, not a scriptural one. The point of this thread is truth. Many go through life believing in half truths. They are saved, but they go through life not knowing the fulness of Him by rejecting His Spirit as He should be accepted, as was given to use in scripture. They have been taught, and have accepted, that His gifts are not for today, leaving Him out of their lives when they could be used as His tool for others.

Of course we are grateful for His part in our lives, but that is not the question you asked.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
