LDS Church President Gordon B. Hinckley will be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom the nation's highest civil honor by President Bush during ceremonies Wednesday at the White House.That date is also President Hinckley's 94th birthday.

I don't understand the point of this post.

Should Hinckley be disqualified from being recognized for some great deed, because of his religion?

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is awarded to persons for their "distinguished civilian service in peacetime" (http://www.medaloffreedom.com/). Arnold Palmer got an award too. So did the Pope.

I don't see what the big deal is, really.

He's our President. As such he is obliged to respect the freedom to religious expression.

i render unto ceaser and pay my taxes and obey even the traffic laws..... i rejoice in the Bible based freedoms our Christian forbears brought forth and i fought for my and incidently your right to render criticism as conscience dictates. Last i looked, there still are 10 commandments. when i fall short i suffer, when the king falls short the whole nation uses the excuse to do the same.

for me, St.Paul is quite simple, to the point and right on...... i am spiritually the slave of the Lord Jesus Christ i am a citizen not a subject of the United States... i obey the lawful orders of those in authority.... but reserve my birthrights. if gwb feels duty bound to celebrate (honor) ramadan and ignore the cries of the Christian Martyrs that is between him and God.
