Hi everyone. Does anyone here have any experience in the area of transitional housing or homeless shelters? It's something I'm looking into, and I'd like to know what to expect. At the moment I'm specifically looking at the Salvation Army's HELP program in Tyler, Texas, but anything close to the Dallas or Tyler areas that doesn't require you to be a drug addict to get in and helps a person get stabilized is good.

And related to this, I wanted to know if anyone had any experience with any forms of long term (1-3 months) pet care in the same general area.

Hello ,

I'm in the UK so it's difficult for me to help direct you. I do know that you could contact these people here.

http://ugmdallas.org/shelter-intake/

Hopefully they may be able to give you some advice or even help you.

I wish I could offer more help.

If you are ex forces, then please get back to me as in that area; I have a better support system and net work of help.

You are in my prayers and thoughts.

Love Nigel.

Hi OC,

Here is a link to transitional housing near Dallas, TX. http://www.transitionalhousing.org/ci/tx-dallas There are far more in Dallas then in Tyler, TX. As for you cat, have you heard of Angels Among Us? You can try calling them. They are based out of Georgia, but they have places in Vermont, so they are not only in GA. There may be someone in your area. Here is their email address. info@angelsrescue.org

Feel free to PM me. I have worked with homelessness for years.

God Bless,

Alan

Thank you both!

your pet is a cat? what's the age, gender, and medical info? (neutered/spayed? declawed? shots? any medications or bad habits like peeing out of the box?) does it play well with others?

i ask because MAYBE my husband and i could consider taking in another cat. we have three. my mom would probably shoot me, but we do have a soft spot for kitties around here.

problem is getting a cat here from tyler. i'm probably about three hours from you if you take the back roads.

I'll check with family in Tyler and see what might be available....
