That image becomes an idol when it is associated it with God. One doesn't need to fall down and worship it for it to be an idol. I disagree with you on this. "A picture is worth a thousand words." A picture portraying Jesus as a shepherd to represent Psalm 23 and John 10 to me is no different than having the words "Psalm 23 and John 10" written on the wall - except that the picture speaks and inspires in ways that words cannot. So I believe Jesus looks like the picture? No. Being reminded of God when we look at His creation is not the same as being reminded of God when we look at that image. One's a lie, the other is not Art has it's own rules when it comes to representing reality. Even a landscape painting is a "lie" if not portrayed exactly as seen, by the rule I see you explaining here. I don't understand how that image can be used as a teaching tool. The only thing it could possibly be used for is to show what Jesus looked like. See what I wrote above. Just so know, I'm not here to point fingers and pass judgment........I used to have those things too. OK, thank you. But I have seen some incredible works of art in the past few years that artists have painted during worship services that portray incredible messages of God's glory, intercession, representations of Scripture, etc.

Calling a man in a picture Jesus and worshiping that picture is worlds apart.
