From what I get from reading some of Buckhari's hadiths, they believe that when a Muslim dies, his spirit remains with his body awake and concious of what is happening to his body. It is the reason their burial process is so strict. Sharia Law states that the most bothersome thing to a male Muslim in the grave is to be contaminated with urine...... that's how nutty it can be. And one must stay there until judgement day. However, when a Muslim dies in the act of Jihad, his spirit goes directly into heaven and he/she bypasses the grave. It's not the 72 virgins that drives them to kill themselves, it is not spending time in the grave being aware of your body being destroyed by natural processes...... and that even a mother would hope to spare her kids from.
