Security forces arrived in the village of Fanous after the building was already razed; despite having all the necessary government permits for a reception hall and a kindergarten, Muslims insisted that the structure was going to be used as a church. Mosques in surrounding villages used loudspeakers to call upon the faithful to help their fellow Muslims in Fanous because Christians were "building a church".
