The earlier number likely reflected some double-counted deaths, said Amy Elliott, chief administrative officer for the medical examiner." http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/05/21/us-usa-tornadoes-idUSBRE94J0TK20130521 Number could rise again, but this is good to hear! As we do rebuild we'll be working on getting that down to 0 for the next one.' You just can't imagine what a two to three hundred mile an hour wind can do when along with it the atmospheric pressure drops drastically. When they tested the wall strength of the walls in a safe room, they shot ten foot long 2x4's and 2x6's into the walls at 150 to 200 miles an hour and the wall structure would stand up........ but as a friend of mine that lost his house in 1999 in the May 3'rd tornado. let them try that with a 20 foot Uhaul truck [which is that destroyed his house and a early model safe room]. They had time to simply leave and move out of the things way that day. We will likely never reach that 0 mark for a storm of that size.

The safe rooms are formed within the foundation of the home and anchored to the ground, can't get much safer than that, unless you build a bunker deep below ground. I am so sad for the children that drowned, they would have survived the storm if those pipes hadn't ruptured.
