Somtimes speaking the truth hurts people, but we're not called to smile and laugh about everything, we're called to speak the truth. Yes a Chrstian should have love as their motivation, but what we consider truth may or may not seem nice to us at the time. It's more important to never deny truth than it is to be popular. The bible is clear that we are not to cave into be popular Proverbs 27:6 Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses. We are not here to be cool and fit in... we are called to speak the truth James 4:4 You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. But is it love when you hurt their feelings, or even make them mad? I.e telling someone that they're going to hell. There are people who will only hear rejection in that. The Holy Spirit must convict of sin, righteousness and judgement. How the truth is presented makes all the difference in the world. If it is motivated by sincere loving concern, and if it is fully explained as part of God's plan to rescue all who will grab His hand to escape from the corruption in the world that all mankind find ourselves living in, perhaps it would be better received. Genuine love makes all the difference. Too often that is not what people hear from Christians. They see the disgust on our faces or hear the condemnation in our voices.
