Turning the discussion from the topic to the person

I agree this is not a good habit in communication.

God bless,

Turning the discussion from the topic to the person

When it gets to that point, the discussion's usually over. It's better to just walk away.

Perhaps this is true. But perhaps too one cannot walk away... Say from a relative. Do you simply cut that relative off? Or a spouse? Do you simply walk away and not deal with the problem?

God bless,

GE

1)Only talking about yourself.

2)bragging

3) Inappropriate jokes and or words.

I agree the first two seem like they would stem from pride Bo.

The words or jokes would come from what is in a person's heart... Is that what you mean?

God bless,

GE

Not answering questions.

When it comes to text based communication, it isn't being taken as literally as it should be.  There's too much implying or insinuation on the part of the readers.

So when you say not answering questions you mean simply wanting to have a monologue?

Here's some more bad habits that I'd suggest hinder communication based on what has been discussed so far and adding a few...

Bad Habits...

1) Blaming (GE)

2) Selective listening/not paying attention (Man)

3) Counter-attacking (GE)

4) Apathy or being passive

5) Being defensive (GE)

6) Accusations (new)

7) Constant Criticism (new)

8) Lying/Omitting (Man)

9) Grumbling (new)

10) Seeking Revenge (new)

11) Mocking (GE)

12) Debating the person and not the subject (LFA)

13) Assuming (Man)

14) Self promotion/boasting/bragging (Man/Bo)
15) Being unable to admit you're wrong or a god complex (Man)

16) Self-focus (Bo)

17) Not answering questions or having a monologue (Justin)

Any others to add to the list? Any comments or thoughts on the above?

God bless,

GE

Good list, G.E.  I can only add the habit of twisting another's words to suit one's agenda.  That one makes me nuts!
