John 20:1 - Early on the first day of the week when it was still dark... and saw that the stone had been rolled away.

So the women came just before sunrise on Sunday the first day of the week.  The Resurrection occurred before sun up on the First day of the week.  6pm Sat. to 3 am to 5 am Sunday.  Matt 28 - On their way to the tomb there was a great earthquake, when they arrived an angel was sitting on the stone and the guards were in shock.

This can be taken two ways;

1.  When on their way to the tomb, the earthquake happened. (4am to 5am) or

2.  The earthquake awoke them, then they went to the tomb (maybe 9pm to 5am)

But with either case, the Resurrection happened on Sunday before sunrise.

I beieve that it was a saturday It say as it began dawn towards the first day . This is at evening not morning

Scripture also provides further proof that there were TWO Sabbaths that week-an annual and a weekly one. In Mark 15:47, Mary Magdalene and her companion watched Joseph of Arimathea lay Jesus in the tomb near the end of the Passover. The next verse, Mark 16:1, tells us that after the “Sabbath,” Mary Magdalene and her companions bought spices with which to anoint Christ’s dead body. However, Luke 23:56 shows that they prepared the spices before the Sabbath. Naturally, they couldn’t have prepared spices before they were even bought!

The only explanation that makes sense is that they bought the spices on Friday and prepared them the same day-after the annual Sabbath on Thursday and before the weekly Sabbath on Saturday! Then they rested on the weekly Sabbath-at the end of which Jesus was resurrected. The next morning, Sunday, they came to the tomb beforesunrise and found him already gone.

Now if Jesus was buried Wed at 6pm.  as Wed first night, Thurs. first day;  Thurs second night, Fri. second day;  Fri third night and Sat third day. Then the Resurrection on the first day of the week would have to have happened at 6 pm on Sat.  This conflicts with the guards being bribed, that the body was taken the previous night Fri.

Or if Jesus was buried on the day of the 1st day Thurs (before 6pm) and continues to Thurs night the 1st night, Then Fri the 2nd day, and Friday night the 2nd night, and lastly Sat. the 3rd day and Sat night the 3rd night, then the Resurrection before sunrise on Sunday (the 4th day).  This truly encompasses the three days and three nights.  This also takes into account the guards being bribed into saying that the Disciples came and stole the body some time Sat night.

Luke 24 - On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices.....  They found the stone rolled away.

Another question is which day of the week was Jesus crucified?

The trouble is, it doesn't work. This only adds up to three days and two nights, not three days andthree nights.

Also, John 20:1 tells us that "on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb."

Did you catch the problem here? John tells us it was still dark when Mary went to the tomb on Sunday morning and found it empty. Jesus was already resurrected well before daybreak. Thus He wasn't in the tomb any of the daylight portion of Sunday, so none of that can be counted as a day.

The term day can refer the time between sun up and sundown, but it can also refer to any portion of a day (sundown to sundown). The way day counts are reckoned, any portion of a day counts as 1 day. So if I traveled for 3 days, the count of 3 days could start an hour before sundown as day 1, the entire next day, and one hour after sundown down counts as the day 3 .

1 Corinthians 15:4

King James Version (KJV)

And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

In Matthew 28:1, we read that two women came, “In the end of the sabbath” tosee the sepulchre, “toward”--NOT“on”--the first day. They did not cometo anoint the body of Jesus, but to see if the course was clear (apparently) for them to perform that service the next

day.

They knew the time was nearly due when the soldiers would leave the tomb, hence the visit (Matthew 27:63). As they came, "...there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men"

Matthew 28:2-4

New King James Version (NKJV)

And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door,[a] and sat on it.His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men.

. The angel told the women not to fear, also that “Jesus...is risen,”and after inviting them to see the empty tomb, sent them
to go and tell the other disciples the gladnews. "As they went...Jesus met them," thus confirming the fact of His resurrection, also the angel’s message to the disciples. This all happened as the the first day was approaching

Luke 18:33

King James Version (KJV)

33 And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.

Jesus, therefore, was buried in the end of Wednesday, as Thursday, the "high day" sabbath drew on, and rose in the end of Saturday, the 7th day, as the first day also drew on, having been in the tomb exactly three days and three nights, or seventy-two hours. The four gospels, therefore, are in complete harmony on the question of the three days and three nights, and Mark and Luke are in perfect accord as to when the spiceswere bought.

actually the Bible don't say what day He arose, it does say that the women went to the tomb on the first day of the week, but He was already gone. so at best it is an assumption that He arose on Sunday which was the first day of the week, It doesn't say what day He was put in the tomb.it was before the Sabbath or on the Sabbath. he just couldn't be on the cross on the Sabbath,  ( keeping in mind the Jewish days started a 6 at night so the Sabbath would be from 6 pm to 6pm the next day) also you need to factor that this was the week that the Passover was suppose to be, Holy days such as Passover were also called Sabbaths, so did they have the Passover on Friday before the seventh day Sabbath ( Saturday) or did the Passover Sabbath fall on the seventh day Sabbath.

John 5:39

King James Version (KJV)

39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

Many  in an attempt to teach a Sunday morning resurrection, have used Matthew 28:1 in support of such a teaching. We do know, however, that Jesus Christ was resurrected on Saturday afternoon, around sunset, after having been in the grave for three days and three nights. He was killed on a Wednesday, and placed in the grave on Wednesday afternoon, just around sunset.

"We read in Matthew 28:1-6 (Authorized Version): 'In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day ( which stars at evening ) of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. And behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it… And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for HE IS RISEN, AS HE SAID.'

"We note from the passage that Christ was already resurrected by the time the women came to the grave. We are told that they appeared 'in the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week.'This point out that this phrase discusses the END of the SABBATH, that is, Saturday evening or late afternoon, and NOT Sunday morning.

But the guards said the Disciples came by night while they were sleeping (Friday night for your account) and stole the body.  So there was no Sabbath Saturday day time for your account.  For the guards account and your account do not add up.

But if Christ Arose early on Sunday morning before daylight as Scripture says, then the guards account of Jesus Disciples taking the body which would be sometimes Sat night to early Sun morning becomes accurate.  Therefore a predawn (Sunday 6am or earlier) account of the Resurrection is the most accurate.

Friday to Sunday can not be 3 days and 3 nights

Friday

Sat night

Sat day

Sunday morning

Where are the other night and days

That is only the case my freind because you are working from a certain presupposition that Jesus was speaking of three full days and nights when he mentioned the prophecy of Jonah. The problem with that is that if this was actually the case, and Jesus meant 72 hours then we have to conclude that their errors in the Bible and we undermine our the infallibility of scripture. Let me try to explain why that is using scripture,  consider the following texts of scripture, Matt 16:21, 17:23, 20:19, 27:64, mar 9:31, 10:34, luke 9:22, 13:32, 18:33, 24:7, 24:21, 24:46, john 2:1, Act 10:40, 1 Cor 15:4. The reality is there are more references to Jesus rising on the third day, then after three days and three nights - so if the sign of Jonah means a literal 72 hours all of these references are wrong.

However the sign of Jonah doesn't have to mean 72 hours, and indeed when we allow the Bible to be a self interpreting book we see that, consider if you will for a moment the book of Esther, in that Back we read that Esther commands the Jews to fast for three days and three nights, Est 4:16, but she goes into to see the king on the third day (Est 5:1). It is therefore apparent that part of day can be described as a day in the Hebrew mindset, pretty much like we would today, for example I might say, 'i've had a bad day at work' do I mean I was at work for the whole of the previous day? No I don't i ma referring to the working day, and using the word day in one meaning from it's wide semantic range.

The truth is there are not enough days mentioned between the death and resurrection of Jesus to have anything other then a Friday Crucifixion and a Sunday resurrection, and I am afraid that any other suggestions rest upon assumptions rather then biblical data.
