The basic idea is that two people who wish to discuss a topic civilly can have a public debate. For example, I asked someone here if they would like to have a conversation back and forth on the discussion of Old Earth Creationism. And I thought, "that would be a great debate to share on the forum, just two people going at it over a topic, presenting evidence." The Soapbox debate forum is set up so that people can have one on one discussions on a different range of topics and discuss these topics at length without fear of someone "hijacking" the thread and forcing one of the moderators to take action and removing the entire discussion permaturely before opposing viewpoints are fully and accurately discussed.
