You think you know what teachers do. Right? Wrong.

You're right - the teacher is not the problem. I'm not blaming the teacher and I realise that it is a difficult job. The problem is the view that education is not about achievement anymore, it's about an all-inclusive feel good system where the standards are moulded around the pupil instead of the pupil being raised to the standards. Great nations are already being reduced to mediocrity by such nonsense.

I'm sorry, but the line "We need to stop reducing teachers to arbitrary measurements of student growth on so-called objective exams." just sums it all up.

That would greatly depend on the exam.....   it bothers me to hear that particular phrase in the problem of schools.

If you are going to teach someone something, you need to tell them what you are going to teach them, then teach them, then test them to see if they have learned what you wanted to teach them.....   to make sure they did learn..     we've been doing that for hundreds of years.    and there is nothing wrong with that.    Where the problem comes in is in the liberal education people setting the test standards to political goals instead of general knowledge.

You always teach to the test..........     but the test should cover what you want to teach.

I think I am seeing the problem of our disagreement - we have a different understanding of what the "so-called objective exams" are.

OakWood, you think these exams are good things?

Other One is on track with my perception: "Where the problem comes in is in the liberal education people setting the test standards to political goals instead of general knowledge."

Most of these standards tests are geared towards students being able to rattle off various facts rather than determining their ability to rationally think, analyze, and apply their knowledge.

Basically, I agree with your first three sentences. But for the last sentence, I believe you should learn more about the exam standards before you tag this author's perception as being a summation of the problem.

If you look inside Common Core you will find that they are trying their best to test our kids into being Global Socialists who have no idea of the history of this nation, or understand liberty or our form of government.     They are teaching our kids to learn but not to think which makes them easy to fill with the information to control them easily.

And I'm not so sure that it hasn't gone too far to stop.

If we judge teachers by how well their students do then Jesus was a terrible teacher.

Well Moss, if I thought that, I would not be a Christian.  By their fruits you shall know them.

Now to be sure, Chrs fail in many ways & fail often.  But where else will you find real, unselfish love?  We Chrs have this unusual and great power to love neighbor as self, & even to love our neighbors.  I would not be an accuser of the brethren -- as we know who he is.

And if one tries to give a comprehensive judgment over a person (read their pedigree), one runs the risk of sinful judging.  The Lord looks on the heart, which man cannot see.

Teachers are just people. I think most do get respect, and they deserve it. There are some bad teachers out there too. The problems with the schools have more to do with unions than teachers. There are serious problems with our schools and we so need to address them. We need our children to do better in school or our country will go down hill.

I agree with your above statement. Also would add what makes a good teacher is the environment they were brought up in.

The problems with the schools have more to do with unions than teachers.

Unions are a problem in school systems; unions allow lazy workers to have a life time job while his/her peers work very hard.

also most people in charge hold closer to secular beliefs than Christian beliefs. With that in mind the buddy system is very well protected within the school system. The ones in charge ( mostly non Christian ) work around the union rules if it is someone kin or a buddy or the buddies relative.

There are serious problems with our schools and we so need to address them. We need our children to do better in school or our country will go down hill.

Again I so agree with you on this. The people in charge many times; over ride the wishes of the public; seen it done more than once.
