Mat 1:17 So all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to the Christ fourteen generations.

Three lots of fourteen. Three brings to mind the Trinity.

Fourteen is two times seven. Two draws attention to the second person of the Trinity, Jesus. The number seven in Scripture means "Divine perfection, completion", which Jesus is.

The total number of generations is 42, which is 6 times 7. Six in Scripture always refers to humanity, therefore drawing attention to the humanity of Jesus who is always Divinely perfect.

Now in Luke Ch 3, there are 77 generations. Two sevens. I feel sure I do not need to say any more.

Every blessing.

Edwin.

Matthew's genealogy is from Joseph back to King David through Salomon. The Kingship blood line.  A curse was put on Jehoiachin (Jer 22:24-30), that none of his descendants would sit on King David's Throne.  This is one reason why Jesus could not of the seed of Joseph, but a step son.

Luke's genealogy is from Mary back to King David through Nathan another son of King David.  A pure blood line back to King David.

In Christ
