This is one of the hardest decisions anyone could face. What should be asked is that if they were not on life support, would they have passed already? Life support gave them a fighting chance to heal. If they do not get better, is it fair to hold onto them? I would trust the Lord with all my heart on this matter. If it is their time, they will pass. If not, the Lord will sustain them. I do not see this as murder at all.

Nor do I see it as murder. My brother and I have an agreement we would do it for each other.

I have it in my living will.  If there is no hope for recovery they are not to put me on any machines.  That way no one will have to make that choice.  Pain management only.  I don't want to  linger.

That is a difficult question that I would pray about if I should ever be in that situation.

Man invented medicines for diabetes too. Would you advocate stopping those and seeing if God keeps you alive?

Such violence in tone, all I can say is that for me I hate the concept of "life support". I don't need machines to delay my ascent to heaven.

Guest LadyC

it is not murder. and really, everyone should have an advanced directive.... although i'm a hypocrite here because i don't have one either. i would hate to put my family in that position.

ayin, it kinda depends. is there any reasonable (medical) chance that the person is going to awaken from the coma? are they brain dead? there are so many different scenarios regarding a comatose person that it would be impossible to give a one size fits all opinion on removing a feeding tube from someone like that. but what i CAN say is that for people like terri schivo a few years ago, who was NOT in a coma but in a "perpetual vegetative state" (when clearly the medical definition and practical definition were in opposition to each other), i personally think that was murder.

There is no violence in my tone. I merely asked a question based on the logic you used in your previous statement.

That would depend on a very large number of things......   My mother forbid me from giving her a feeding tube while she still had a rational mind knowing she had Alzheimer and would sooner or later not be able to swallow......   I sat by her side holding her hand the last three days she lived as she slowly starved to death.  To say the least it was not easy to do....

There has recently been a bunch of articles that have come out that show society is headed towards euthanasia of the "useless" in society. Whether its voluntary or not remains to be seen. Two articles came out this week alone. One showed that the population cannot be sustained. In keeping with the georgia stones that advocate a population no greater than half a million, this study funded by our govt recommended that population be reduced. The other recommended a change in guidelines for blood pressure medication in folks over 60. Apparently it is ok in their eyes to let folks over 60 have a higher blood pressure. Medically that is quite bad.

I fully expect the govt to one day make a medical decision for me, despite my better understanding of my medical needs than they have, that I am no longer worth keeping alive. Not through heroic means, but in just not being worth the cost of basic medicine.
