The word "good" doesn't always include "happy". Jesus said "it is finished" and the atonement was completed. Even though it was solemn and sad on the surface, it was also a joyful event - the culmination of what people had anticipated for 1,500 years and what all the old testament scriptures pointed to. Easter, which the Catholic Church honors can be a different day each year. From my Research and perspective, Good Friday has nothing to do with The Lord dying on the cross. Our Lord was crucified on Nissan 14 (Jewish calendar) and rose on the "festival of first fruits" which is Nissan 16. Friday has nothing to do with this. The Gregorian calendar changes Easter yearly, but not the Jewish calendar. By the way, in that particular year Jesus was crucified, it was not on a Friday, but rather a Thursday afternoon. Disclaimer: if you research this, know this -God considers his Feasts to be Sabbaths too. Not just on Saturdays. FYI, I will give you the timeline on THURSDAY I believe this to be accurate: 1. Thursday morning-Jesus delivered to Pilate (6:00-8:00 am) 2. Scourging 8:00-9:00 am 3. Crucified-9:00 am 4. The mocking- 9:00-12:00 noon 5. Darkness- 12:00-3:00 pm 6. Temple curtain torn-3:00 pm 7. Taking body down -5:00-6:00 pm 8. Closing the tomb-7:00 pm Note: Jesus had to be put into the tomb BEFORE the sabbath day ( because Jews do not work on sabbath day), which was Passover, the next day, Friday.
