The Democrats and the Republicans are two heads of the same snake.   They have been for years.   Anyone who has witnessed more then four presidential elections can testify to the truth that despite the different logo of each party, the elected candidate performs the duties of those who elected him - his contributors.

"Any individual who is able to raise [enough money] to be considered presidential is not going to be much use to the people at large. He will represent...whatever moneyed entities are paying for him.... Hence, the sense of despair throughout the land as incomes fall, businesses fail and there is no redress."
- GORE VIDAL

And it's getting worse.  A recent Supreme Court decision has opened the flood gates for private contributions to elections.  There are no longer any limits.   The people cannot compete against this trend in American politics.   Our political process has been sold out to the highest bidder.

Worse yet, in the summer of 2013 the Supreme Court declared unconstitutional the Voter Rights Act of 1968, legislation that had been seen as the hallmark and legacy of the work of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.   All that doctor King accomplished regarding the law has been thrown out the window.....and blacks have no idea what that means to them and their children.  They continue to worship Rev. King as a cultural icon, all the while ignorant of the liberty they have lost.   If it wasn't so pathetic it would be funny.

Oddly only white middle class Americans seem to think there's a difference between the Democrats and the Republicans.   Blacks, hispanics and white trash all know that the circus benefits them to some degree.   The only difference in their mind is how much or little a candidate will allow them to milk the system.  The dogs have been thrown a bone and they have been blinded by their belief in Federal generosity.

The American problem is that the cash cow of the middle class is drying up.

Wealthy corporations and individuals have either left the country or are insulated against taxation.   The poor are insulated by their benefits from even making the attempt to improve their lives.  Why should they?   It would be to their disadvantage.

As a result, the American people have been paralyzed in their political circumstances.   The rich are more or less impervious in their social elevation.  The poor are impervious in their hand-outs and inability to effect real change.   The middle class are being restricted each day in new ways including economic ones.

The American Republic began a slow death decades ago.  It was officially pronounced dead by the US congress on Oct 26, 2001 when the Patriot Act was passed.  What we are now witnessing is a post-constitutional fascist police state.

"Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power."
-Benito Mussolini

Let the reader take the political temperature of American politics using a standard benchmark.

that's kind of hopeful...  I'm not the only one who doesn't like any of them...

They are all bought off by the same people though...  so it's not surprise.....     question is how can we get people who will represent us when it costs so much and the 1% have the dispensable cash to fund those running

It will never change under our current two party, winner take all system.  Also, as long as television is the dominant media source those with the money will always have control.

More money is spent on TV ads than any other thing in a campaign. Take away TVs dominance and then money becomes less important.

After thinking on this a while I think it really bothers me that 47 percent do think they do represent us.

Well, finally, there's something most of us can agree on.

But I do wonder how many of that 53% still vote almost exclusively one party or the other.
