How well do we know Scripture… Are these sayings or something similar found in the Bible?

Also, anymore sayings you could think of that are commonly used that may or may not be Scripture?

An eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth.

If one allows him or herself to be taught by God/Holy Spirit/Jesus then they will come to know the written Word of God.  Not only the written Word, but come to know God.

I agree Johnlove. Where does the local Church and other Christians come into play in the equation do you think?

The Church has the responsibility to evangelize, and to teach one to accept Jesus as their Lord and God.  Also the Church should walk in the gifts of the Holy Spirit so there will be people to lay hands on the newly baptized person, so he or she can receive the Holy Spirit.

After one receives the Holy Spirit he or she no longer needs to be taught about God by man.

(John 16:13)

So preaching or group Bible studies are no longer necessary once one recieves the Holy Spirit? Please clarify.

John tells us that the Holy Spirit teaches us everything.  Paul tells us that one can only come to know God if he or she are taught by God.

I have found it beneficial to share with other spiritual Christians, but always ask Jesus if what is shared by others is right or wrong.

Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. Proverbs 27:17

Proverbs 4:23

Which number is this in reference to please Cletus? Or is this a new observation? Prov. 4:23 Keep your heart with all vigilance,    for from it flow the springs of life.

it was the scripture that came to mind while reading your post... how well do we know scripture. It isn't really a reference to any number but a reference to the topic as a whole. if this verse tells us to guard our heart then we should be careful with sayings and what we put in our hearts. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. That's the last part of Luke 6:45.
I have enjoyed this thread. Thanks to everyone for the info.

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Proverbs 4:23

Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Psalms 119:160

Amen~!

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7
