JERUSALEM, ISRAEL (Worthy News)– Roughly 95 percent of the Syrian side of the Golan Heights is controlled by jihadists associated with the Al-Nursa Front and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), an IDF commander told Israel's Channel 10.

Lt-Col. Anan Abbas, deputy commander of the Golan Brigade, told Israel's Channel 10 that a single Syrian army brigade controls the Quneitra border.

The Syrian army's 90th Brigade has been defending Quneitra against Al-Nursa Front and ISIL. Last week, a major position held by the Syrian brigade was overrun, and the weakened brigade may lose control of Quneitra, military sources said.

Last Sunday, a Syrian anti-tank missile hit a civilian truck and killed an Israeli-Arab teenager, and injured three others, including the boy's father.

Israel retaliated by sending its air force and struck nine army positions in Syria, including a regional command center.

However, it appears the anti-tank missile may have been fired in error.  Syria contacted Israel through the United Nations, saying the missile was thought to have been fired at a "terrorist" vehicle.

Israel is "inclined to accept the explanation," Israel's Channel 10 reported.
