JERUSALEM (Worthy News)– The Temple Institute has created a $100,000 Indiegogo campaign to raise financing for "architectural plans" to construct the Third Temple, which it says will be a "house of prayer for all nations" and will usher in "a new era of universal harmony and peace" as prophesied in the Bible.

The campaign says, "After millennia of yearning, only one organization is paving the way for the rebuilding of the Temple. The Temple Institute (מכון המקדש) located in the Old City of Jerusalem is a research organization dedicated to the preparing for the construction of the Third Temple, including the recreation of 60 sacred Temple vessels ready for use once the Temple is rebuilt.  These include the High Priest's breastplate featuring the twelve precious stones of the tribes of Israel, the half-ton golden menorah, and the musical instrument of the Levitical choir."

"Now is time for one of its most ambitious projects yet: completing architectural plans for the actual construction, fusing ancient texts and modern technology. While strictly adhering to the religious requirements set forth in Biblical texts, the Third Temple will also be equipped with every modern amenity: full computerization, underground parking, temperature control, elevators, docks for public transportation, wheelchair access, and much more," the campaign statement continued.

"It is not enough to wait and pray for the Third Temple. It is a Biblical obligation to build it," the campaign concluded.

However, Bible scholars say the Temple will be built by the Messiah himself as He sits as a priest and a king on His throne. They point to a passage in Zechariah where it states emphatically twice that the "Branch" will build the temple, whom New Testament scholars say is Jesus and will be fulfilled after His second coming.

"Thus says the LORD of hosts, "And say to him, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, "Behold, the man whose name is the Branch: for he shall branch out from his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD.  It is he who shall build the temple of the LORD and shall bear royal honor, and shall sit and rule on his throne. And there shall be a priest on his throne, and the counsel of peace shall be between them both." [Zechariah 6:12-13]

Furthermore, prophecy experts warn that the next temple to appear will be the temple of the Antichrist.

As the Bible warns, "Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God." [2 Thessalonians 2:3-4]

Finally, Bible scholars remind Christians of Jesus' warning as He told his followers to watch for the sign of the 'abomination of desolation.' [Matthew 24:15]  Experts warn that the 'abomination of desolation' will be a picture of the Antichrist sitting in the temple proclaiming himself as "God."

Earlier this year, the Temple Institute announced the possibility of finding the red heifer, which is believed to be necessary in the event the Temple will be rebuilt.

Is this something that should be supported?

I do not believe that Christians should support this temple. The main drive of Christians should be sharing the gospel with the Jewish people, not building a temple.

Depending on your viewpoint of end times, this temple would be the temple that is defiled by the anti-christ. This would be the temple which is part of the end times scenario which brings in the deception. Now, some get excited because as these things come to be, it means the return of Jesus is closer, but if the anti-christ being revealed also is a thing which indicates the return of Jesus is closer, it is not something Christians should support, even though we know Jesus will come just a few years after it happens.

I do not believe Christians should support the judgement or the deception of the anti-christ, but should rather support efforts to share Jesus.

I have a couple questions.  Why would God promote having a temple built?  Would it not distract people away from Christ?  Salvation is not found by making sacrifices in a temple, is it?

I'm having a difficult time thinking that something (sacrifices) which God did away with would once again be instituted.  For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins, right?

The third temple is implied in Daniel (with reference to morning and evening sacrifice and Anti-Christ standing in the Holy Place) thus it is certain to be built so that the Hebrews will see the Anti-Christ for what he is, I suppose, based on no authority.

What caught my eye was the first statement "will be a "house of prayer for all nations" and will usher in "a new era of universal harmony and peace" as prophesied in the Bible."  Let's assume they will succeed, as scripture portrays, and people do come together in prayer in one place.  Will this not usher in the peace scripture speaks of in 1 Thessalonians 5:3?

For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.

Another issues I have with the statement is the idea of universalism.

I agree that those who are Christs should continue to bring the truth to all, not support the building of something that stands against His word.

To date, there has been two temples to Jehovah, right, 1) Solomon's and 2) Herod's. So, I was talking to someone the other day about the second temple and I asked, Why would a temple for God be named after an unsanctified King?

I'm curious, why is it called Herod's temple?

It wasn't the second temple.  The First Temple was destroyed in 586 BC and the Second Temple was built seventy years later in 516 BC.

Herod's temple was built around five hundred years later as an extension to the Second Temple. Herod used this temple to worship false gods.
