A hundred years ago today Britain entered the First World War, with this centenary we honour those who served, we remember those who died.

I shall be speaking at a service on the foundation where I live at 10:45.

Britain's entry into WW1 was announced at 23:00 on 4th August 1914.

Hi, ncn, I hope that your speaking engagement goes well.  It's good to honor them.

This evening inspired by the words of wartime Foreign Secretary Sir Edward Grey,

who said on the eve of WW1,  "The lamps are going out all over Europe; we shall not see them lit again in our lifetime"

Tonight, throughout the country people will turn down their lights or turn them off between 22:00 and 23:00 and place a candle in their windows.

A mark of respect for this most poignant of anniversaries.

"At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them"
