Antiochus was a vile person. He did come to power with flattery.

http://www.enduringword.com/commentaries/2711.htm

"He flattered Eumenes, king of Pergamus, and Attalus his brother, and got their assistance. He flattered the Romans, and sent ambassadors to court their favour, and pay them the arrears of the tribute. He flattered the Syrians, and gained their concurrence." (Clarke)

I completely agree with you that Daniel often prophesied about the future "abomination of desolation" also mentioned by Jesus as a future event. I however do not believe any covenant is mentioned in the context of the abomination. Your references to Daniel 8 and 11 are in my eyes clear references to Antiochus, and the other mentions of the antichrist or abomination (Daniel 7, Daniel 11, Daniel 12, Matthew 24, 2 Thess 2, Rev 13) make no mention of any peace treaty.

So all you are left with is Daniel 9:27 which more clearly fits in with Jesus as the one who confirms the covenant. In the end we have two differing views, but no-one can say my view does not fit scripture, because it does fit. Your arguments are possibly based on an incomplete knowledge of exactly how closely Daniel 8 and Daniel 11:1-35 actually do match history, and how close Jesus matches Daniel 9:27a.

"When these happenings were reported to the king, he thought that Judea was in revolt. Raging like a wild animal, he set out from Egypt and took Jerusalem by storm. He ordered his soldiers to cut down without mercy those whom they met and to slay those who took refuge in their houses. There was a massacre of young and old, a killing of women and children, a slaughter of virgins and infants. In the space of three days, eighty thousand were lost, forty thousand meeting a violent death, and the same number being sold into slavery." (2 Maccabees 5:11-14).

Those were not peaceful nor flattering acts by Antiochus IV in Jerusalem. The one in Dan.11:21 is to come to power peaceably, which also is iterated about the "little horn" in Dan.8.

Dan.9:27 includes a clear reference to the "league" of Dan.11:23 the "vile person" makes, which is what the "covenant" of Dan.9:27 is about. When that verse says that covenant is broken in the midst of the "one week", and the event of the abomination and end of sacrifice then happens, that is the same subject of Dan.11:31, Dan.8, and Dan.12 about the end, the "abomination of desolation" subject Jesus quoted. Even the context of Dan.9:27 after the mention of the end of sacrifice and oblation (which is in regards to a temple in Jerusalem), the subject is still the events that consumate the end of this world. Likewise it is in Dan.12 with that same subject link.

Just because the KJV using the word "covenant" in Dan.9:27 for the "league" of Dan.11:21, it does not mean any of God's Covenants. That should be easy, since Jesus made no specific covenant with anyone for a limited 7 year period that would be broken after 3.5 years. You claim since The Gospel Books don't mention specifically the idea of the ending of sacrifices that that is proof of your view, yet there is no mention anywhere in The New Testament of a 7 year covenant that our Lord Jesus ever made with anyone. And definitely not with any idea of Him breaking such a covenant.

When we look at the subject and context of Christ's Olivet Discourse involving the 2nd temple He and His disciples saw while there upon the Mount of Olives, there is proof of that idea of the end of sacrifices given there also, because He quoted the event of the "abomination of desolation" from the Book of Daniel which includes that event of the end of sacrifice and oblation by the priests. He didn't have to re-read the whole Book of Daniel for those present with Him to know the events He was speaking of from the Book of Daniel when He said "abomination of desolation."

I'm not claiming that Jesus made a covenant, the Hebrew means "gave strength to a covenant" that is why many translations say that he "confirmed" a covenant. A covenant is a promise, Jesus fulfilled God's promise to send Israel a Messiah. Simple as that.  The reason why the fulfilment of this occurs for 7 years, is that Jesus' ministry confirmed that Jesus was the Messiah for a period of 3.5 years. Additionally during the great tribulation Jews will be open to the gospel, which means that through salvation Jews will know that Jesus is the Messiah, it will be confirmed to them. So for 7 years Jesus is confirmed to the Jews as their promised Messiah.

Yes Jesus was referring to the book of Daniel regarding the abomination, I agree with you wholeheartedly on that reference to Daniel 9:27. This means that Jesus' focus was on the last 3.5 years, not the first 3.5 years:

He will confirm a covenant with many for one week.

But in the middle of that week

he will bring sacrifices and offerings to a halt.

On the wing of abominations will come one who destroys,

until the decreed end is poured out on the one who destroys.

In Matthew 24 Jesus refers to the abomination, the one who destroys. Jesus does not refer to the earlier person who halts sacrifice. Jesus was only concerned about the great tribulation (the last 3.5 years started by the "abomination".)

On the other hand, this could (and truthfully does) refer to another covenant of  7 years, still in our future. And the coming abomination, when the man of sin enters the temple and declares that he is GOD, thus polluting the temple and stopping the daily Sacrifices. This 7 year covenant is proven in Revelation, so it is silly to fight against it.

It does not say he came to power IN JERUSALEM by flatteries. Daniel wrote; "He will return and show favor to those who forsake the holy covenant." Then "32 With flattery he will corrupt those who have violated the covenant." So his flatteries only worked on those who had abandoned their covenant.

Whoever you was quoting  was right: Dan. 11 does not begin to refer to the Beast of Revelation until verse 36. The Previous verses are about Antiochus. Daniel 8 is also about Antiochus.  Therefore any theory that uses the 2300 days for end times or four the future will be WRONG.

the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week:

It seems MUCH MORE LIKELY that Daniel's "he" in verse 27 is referring back to the prince that shall come who was none other than the Roman Emperor.

LAMAD

That doesn't make grammatical sense.

The clown comes to his hometown. The family of the coming clown will see him at the circus.

Would you really read that sentence as 2 clowns?  In the same way, why would the coming prince of verse 25 (Jesus) be any different to the coming prince of verse 26?  For some reason you are letting your view of history (Romans ruin the city) override what the text is actually grammatically saying:  that the coming prince in both verse 25 and 26 are logically the same coming prince.

Of course this would then mean that Galileans in fact ruined the city , because Jesus' countrymen were Galileans.

You are right in a way, of course same clown. But in Daniel, NOT the same clown or prince.

26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

27  And HE...

One coming prince was titled "Messiah." The other coming prince destroyed the city. You had one clown, but in reality there were two. The Messiah was cut off and did NOT destroy the city. The OTHER one that came and destroyed the city and sanctuary was TITUS, a Roman emperor, not Jesus.

A clown will be cut off in his own hometown. The family of the coming clown will see him at the circus.

Not necessary that they are the same clown. Those in Galilee did NOT destroy the city, because TWO DIFFERENT PRINCES: one titled "Messiah" and the other a prince with a description to identify him. .And the HE refers back to the last mention: the one that destroyed the city.

This is proven by the New Testament and by History. Jesus was cut off, but ANOTHER prince destroyed the city. it is not an easy verse to decipher, but then, we have the book of Revelation and the rest of the New Testament to help.

LAMAD

The second prince does not destroy the city. The verse says its his "kinsmen" or "countrymen" that do so, not the prince. In fact by that stage the prince is already "cut off", yet the people of the prince destroy the city. The Hebrew for destroy means to "ruin", a word that is translated in various places as destroy or corrupt or rot.   During the Jewish/Roman war leading up to 70AD it was in fact the Galilean Zealots who ruined the city and the sanctuary through their infighting/corruption/theft/murder/false witness/temple desecration/cannibalism.

So to keep one prince instead of introducing two princes makes more sense.  The fact that the verse refers to the coming of an anointed prince, then the anointed one gets cut off, then refers to the people of the coming prince is just various ways of describing the same prince. The context does not refer to a new prince just because the adjective "anointed" is no longer used in verse 26.

ie if I refer to a clever boy who is coming to class, then refer to him as the clever one, and then say the coming boy is bringing his friend.  Is this then a different boy just because I didnt call him "clever" the last time?   Not at all, we all know its still the same boy.  The prince in verse 26 is not described as the anointed prince, but he is still described as the coming prince, and so the verse is clear who he is. He is the already mentioned coming prince.

He is the already mentioned coming prince.

Its for sure, the people of Israel did not destroy the city either. We know from History that it was TItus's army that destroyed both the city and the temple. And the other prince, titled the Messiah is the one cut off. Titus was not "cut off." The Zealots certainly had their part, but make no mistake, they did not destroy the city, tear down the walls, and take the temple down block by block. No, that was the Roman Army.

You can puzzle over that verse as if we lived back there and did not know the future; but the truth is, we are WAY past that, and can look back in history and know without any shadow of doubt that Titus came with his armies and it was his people that destroyed the city and the temple. Does this truth fit the verses in Daniel. Yes, I believe it does. Daniel wrote, (Amplified) "the people of the [other] prince who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary..."  It seems all the English translations puts it very similar to this.

We must keep in mind, Daniel was giving a very brief outline of events. He wrote, "And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself." That was the END of that thought. The next sentence is a different subject and about a different person.

The next thought is this - NOT related to the Messiah being cut off:

the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

So a prince was to come, whom now we know to be Titus. He was a Roman leader, though not at the time an emperor. He came to destroy the city. But did He come to confirm the covenant with many for one week? One would think that the verse 27 "he" would refer back to Titus. However, I believe it is only referring back to one LIKE Him, I the "Man of sin." Paul tells us he will enter the temple and declare he is God. From  bible knowledge this would stop the sacrificed until they found a red heifer without spot or blemish to cleanse the temple. but this time they will not have TIME to do that, for the man of sin will turn on all Jews.

So does what we know from Paul and from John fit what Daniel wrote? ONLY if the "he" refers to a "position" and not a specific person.

As I said before, it is not an easy verse. thankfully we have the New Testament to help us. if we did not have the New Testament, there would be massive disagreements on this verse - far more than we see today.

Read what is in Revelation before the 7th trumpet - back to the 7th seal. What you read will be happening during the FIRST half of the week. You know without any help that the first half of a time will come before the second half. We cannot back up time. Time always moves forward. (Unless you are Joshua) Therefore, what comes just before the 2nd half of a time period must be the first half.

Ok I understand. I believe Revelation is a series of visions all ending at the second coming. So I believe the y seals end at the second coming, the seven trumets end at the second coming and the seven bowls end at the second coming.

So the 3.5 years of the witnesses, the 3.5 years of the woman in Rev 12, the 3.5 years of the antichrist's rule in Rev 13 all speak to me of the great tribulation and not an earlier period.

This is not the intention of the Author. Imagine in your mind a scroll rolled up (as was customary in those days" and sealed with 7 seals. There is script written on the outside, that can be read, but what is inside cannot be read until all seals are broken. As each seal is broken, there is a small amount that can be read about that seal. Keep in mind, the scroll cannot be unrolled to reveal the inside until all seven seals are broken.

So once the seals are broken, and the scroll begins to be unrolled, what is read? Chapter 8 of Revelation is the first thing to be seen and read as the scroll us slowly unrolled. In other words, it is simply IMPOSSIBLE to get to any trumpet judgments until all of the seals are broken. In the same way, it will be impossible to pour out any vials until all 7 trumpets are sounded. this is just the way Revelation is written. It is extremely chronological, except for a few parenthesis.

Yes, every mention of the 3 1/2 year period is about the last half of the week. Some try to put the 1260 days of testifying into the first half, but that is not the intention of the Author.

All these fabulous discussion proves that Daniel 2:44 happened during the time of these earthly kings. So the eternal millennium and the resurrection of the dead commenced in the first century.

Revelation 14:13-14

And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.

And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.

The angelic white cloud that Christ rides with are all those who have passed from life in the earthly body to life in the eternal angelic bodies.

All of Daniel has been fulfilled where many have been sanctified by the Holy Ghost and made white by being resurrected (Romans 8:11). The reaping from the great harvest of God has been happening from when the Christ opened the graves of the Old Testament saints (Matthew 27:52-53) and took them into their promised land heavenly new Jerusalem and gave them gifts (Ephesians 4:8). Revelation 14:15 is the call of urgency to start reaping from the harvest when the Holy Ghost declared Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth.

Daniel 12:10-12

Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand. And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.

The only prophesy that is yet to be fulfilled is the coming of the prince of this world, Satan who is also known as the beast of the bottomless Pitt and who is the eighth king and also the seventh in line. These numbers have spiritual meanings , because eight represents rebirth. This means the devil when being released from his bottomless Pitt (Isaiah 14:15), is going to be incarnated into the world as the man of sin. Remember when the Holy Ghost took on the form of his servants as the man Jesus of Nazareth, who is the Son of Man, the devil will replicate this coming and be incarnated as the Man of Sin.

Jesus clearly stated that the prince of this world is coming. The prince of this world is the abomination that maketh desolate, for he is the man of sin.

John 14:30

I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me,

Jesus is prophesying here in regards to the coming of satan as the man of sin. In Daniel 12:10-12 the man of sin comes after a symbolic time period of 1290 days. Now this means that he comes after the martyrdom of the true witnesses of christ who represent the two witnesses in John's Revelation.

Revelation 11:3

And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.

So the faithful who hold the testimony of Jesus will preach the everlasting gospel to the world for the symbolic time period of 1260 days and 30 days lager they have been martyred the man of sin is revealed. So the Holy Spirit church is removed before the man of sin comes in pomp and ceremony unopposed.

2 Thessalonians 2:3-8

Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

One more important thing that I left out is the term "daily sacrifice". This term is the atoning works on the cross at Calvary for the forgiveness of sins once and for all. For a Christian the daily sacrifice for the sins we commit on a daily basis is what was posted on the cross at Calvary.

The question that arises is what initiates the removal of what today Christians would consider unthinkable?

The only way that Christ's redemptive work on the cross at calvary can be removed or let us say no longer considered by believers, is if there is a manifested messiah on earth. Now according to Daniel this manifested messiah is the man of sin who is labeled the abomination that maketh desolate. In simple words he is the object of worship that brings destruction to those who worship him.

Part of the strong delusion is to believe the lie, which is to believe that this person is actually the returned messiah.

2 Thessalonians 2:10-12

And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

In the Thessalonians versus above it is clear that those who succumb to the strong delusion are in fact believers, who received not the love of truth, who is The Lord himself, but replaced him with the lie, who is the Man of Sin pretending to be the earthly messiah. In this case they fall out of favour with God and are condemned to eternal destruction / desolation. This is why the man of sin is called the abomination that maketh desolate (destruction).

The reason why the true messiah will not return in a manifested earthly form for people to behold by sight, is because that would remove the daily sacrifice. Think about it about, why would the atoning works on the cross at Calvary be important if The Lord himself is now present with the world. The world needs to only believe him by sight and that will account to them for righteousness. However what did Jesus say?

John 14

I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?”

Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.

I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me, 31but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me.

Listen to me brothers and sisters, there will be no literal second coming of Christ because Jesus said the world will never see me again and further more The Lord is with us in a Spirit because he said that he will not leave us as orphans, but will come to us and make his dwelling with us, within the context of the Holy Ghost who was given on Pentecost. John 14 is entirely in context to the Holy Ghost being given on Pentecost. The world cannot see the Spirit of truth, yet Jesus said:

“If you love me, keep my commands. 16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

I know I have touched on a sensitive issue but please listen The Lord said the Spirit of truth is here to stay with the believer in place of his resurrected appearance form and this Spirit cannot be removed, therefore it negates any literal earthly second coming of messiah in a manifested form. Jesus said that he will manifest himself onto the believer within the context of the Holy Ghost.

If there is a manifested earthly messiah in a form other than the Holy Spirit that has been given to the believer to stay with them for good, and if a believer falls for the strong delusion and believes the lie who is the manifested devil pretending to be Christ then that believer is damned forever. Jesus said in John 14 towards the end of the chapter, that the prince of this world who is Satan is coming to deceive many and that Jesus has nothing to do with him or his earthly dominion. Stop and think for a moment, if a manifested messiah in visible form is believed and worshipped, then that removes two things from the ONCE believer and they are:

1) The Holy Ghost

2) The daily sacrifice which is the atoning works of Christ on the cross at Calvary for the forgiveness of sins once and for all.

There is no earthly second coming of Christ, it is a false doctrine people, please do not fall for this lie.

We are expecting the devil to manifest in this earthly realm.

In order for us to be reunited with The Lord, we must first die, then be judged by him to be counted as worthy and numbered amongst his sheep within his heavenly barn.

This is a warning people for Christ sake heed the warning and warn others so that their blood is not on your hands, for I am your friend. The time is truly at hand and his false prophet the symbol of the black dragon (apostasy) is in the world and is preparing the way for his master the beast of the bottomless Pitt, who is also know as lucifer. Bringing together the world religions is his master piece that needs to be achieved before his master comes in pomp and ceremony according to the false second coming doctrine that so many Christians have taken on face value without scrutinising it to what implication a literal manifested coming of Christ has and why the real messiah can never come and that it is us who are being called out of this earthly life to the eternal life to be reunited with the risen lord, from death and onto resurrection to be counted as one of the many hosts of heaven (white cloud) that he sits on.

The risen lord doesn't come to us, but rather we are being drawn to him as he stated:

John 12:32

And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself."

What a bunch of claptrap! Don't fall for this MYTH. There are MANY scriptures telling us Jesus will return, and we will SEE HIM. In fact, EVERY EYE will see Him.
