I won't need the body once I die,.If doctors can use it to save someone's life or prolong it I think that would give a sense of peace to those I leave behind.

I donate blood and when I die I have told my family that I would like my organs donated. Perhaps there is a person out there who is in need of a heart. If they receive my heart, they may in return go around sharing how God had blessed them with a new heart. Anything that may lead to the spreading of Gods message I am game for :emot-hug:

Consider this: The Lord Jesus gave the greatest blood donation in human history.

Our blood is NOTHING compared to Jesus blood, He SAVED us with it and cleansed us from all sin.

Thank God for the blood that bought me free!

Even so, to treat people like mechanical devices--complete with interchangable parts--strikes me as most debilitating to a high and lofty concept of the human being.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Well, organ transplants are not without their complications, as the donee's body wants to treat the donated organ as a foreign object and tries to fight against it (transplant rejection).

But I'm not so sure what you are saying here is the complete attitude of doctors and scientists. Maybe the more athiestic ones. But many do value the human lives they are trying to save.

Having taught Anatomy & Physiology labs, I can understand, though, how doctors can see donated organs more as "parts" than as "human life." Not that you don't value the life, it's just that when you deal with bodies and body parts on a constant basis, you have to somehow nullify the queeziness of it all.

Case in point, we have to dissect cats in lab. My first few semesters, I cried handling the poor kitty-kitties. Over time, I've been able to block that feeling to handle it, and I regard them more as "items" that are a part of the class. Not that I still don't value cats; I just have to regard the ones we use in lab differently than I would otherwise.

Make sense?

Neb, I know of at least one elderly lady who is so delighted that she can see due to a cornea transplant in her eyes.

She can now see; she does take special eye drops to help prevent rejection but is able to see clearly now.

This is posted in prayer and praise too but I just had to come back and say this. Last night my friend's husband received a heart. Lee had gone into full heart failure and was on an artificial heart.

You know when you think about it, organ donation is an amazing gift. I just want to thank God for this gift of life for my friend and because of someone's unselfish act of love Lee will be coming home soon. I encourage all of you to be donors. I really do feel that this is a gift of love and what does scripture say..."No greater love has any man the to give his life for another."
