Guest LadyC
NASHVILLE – An American Baptist College is defending its invitation to an openly lesbian United Church of Christ minister, asserting that Christians are making an “idol” of the Bible. “It’s sad that people use religion and idolatry of the Bible to demoralize same-gender-loving people,” American Baptist College President Forrest Harris told The Tennessean on Wednesday. The publication then asked that he clarify his use of the phrase “idolatry of the Bible.” “When people say [the Bible] is synonymous with God and the truth,” Harris responded. “We can’t be guided and dictated by a first-century world view.” read more here

True, but that will not be the case any longer. This is indicative of the apostasy that has permeated the so-called evangelical and fundamentalist seminaries, Bible schools, and churches. But it did not happen overnight. There has been a steady decline in Bible doctrine and practice for the past 150-200 years, but more so since the middle of the 20th century. The word *Baptist* and what it stands for has become essentially meaningless.

There is a church near me that recently took the word baptist out of their name because it no longer means what it used to mean. The church itself is adhering to the old baptist doctrines. Until then, I encourage all bible believing Baptist churches to secede from the Baptists and become a nondenominational, Christian fundamentalist church.
