Personally, I think the whole thing is hilarious. ...You know, the guy could have walked into a bank or school and shot up a bunch of people, but he didn't. Instead, he flew his homemade gyrocopter to D.C. and landed on the Capitol lawn. Lol. AND without getting shot down. ...Impressive.

It's not impressive.  It's what happens when you have typical liberal incompetence running the show.   The Left has made it sooo much easier for us to be targets for terrorists and frankly it is by design.

OK so maybe they don't have Sam's, but its a gyroxopter. It could easily be taken down by a stinger or even a well placed sniper shot and a crashing gyrocopter is not likely to cause a lot of civilian damage to the civilian population. And if he had been loaded with explosives, they would have to be fairly stable to avoid going off prematurely due to the rough flight of the gyrocopter, so taking it down with a sniper shot or stinger would have caused minimal, if any civilian casualties, and if he had been a jihadist or other wack job, he could have done some serious damages to our capitol.

So I agree with Shiloh here, this was an obvious failure on the part of the SS. And they don't really have to worry about negative press anyway as their administration pretty much controls the press, so they could have spun it anyway they want.

Seriously this is approaching fascist territory.

We know that he spoke publicly, on television, about flying his gyrocopter on the white house lawn, a 60-some year old mailman delivering letters as a form of non-violent (albeit law breaking) protest.

It would be impossible for the secret service, and likely a few other law enforcement agencies to NOT know about him and track everything he did, said, and his gyrocopter too.

We know he flew VERY low over an area with civilians, in some videos you can actually see the civilians right under his flight path.

To say that in retrospect that he should have been killed, despite knowing he was not violent, despite knowing that he was protesting campaign finance reform, despite being less of a threat than other incidents, because he COULD have been a threat knowing he wasn't... With no other alternative being presented, it is such a basic disregard for his life having any value.

No creative options even? He should not have been arrested after landing for breaking the law? He should not have been arrested just before he took off for attempting to enter a no fly zone? The secret service/FBI shouldn't have just sabotaged his gyrocopter and made sure it couldn't fly? None of those things should have been options, he should not face a trial of his peers, and he should have just been killed, potentially injuring or killing others, damaging property, in hindsight, KNOWING that nothing bad happened?

That's a dangerous line of thinking to go down.

how would the secret service, "know" that he wasnt a threat" from the outside, he could have been doing all that so that the SS would assume that he wasn't, that he was just another idiot with a cause, and low and behold, surprise, hes wearing a vest full of CD instead of letters, or have all those letters filled with anthrax? the publicity could have just been a diversion. The bigger fail isnt whether or not they could have shot him down, the fail is they actually let him take off knowing what his flight plan was.

Liberals are the last people who should be accusing anyone of fascism.  That's the old pot calling the kettle black scenario. Really amusing the hypocrisy that liberals live in.

What you seem to be unable to grasp is that the Secret Service does not have the option  treating this like its a social experiment.   They are not hired on to value anyone's life that they deem a possible threat.

The Secret Service's job is to make sure that a potential threat never gets to show how much of a threat he or she might be.   The Secret Service is trained to look at every one of us as possible threat and if we act in a way that could be viewed as threatening, to neutralize that threat before we get to act.  That's not fascism.   Every civilized country with a president, Prime Minister, etc.   has  a counterpart in their presidential security services that is trained the same way.

This man did something incredibly stupid.   It is only because the Secret Service under this president is lazy and incompetent that he didn't get rightfully shot down.     You keep droning on and on about how he was just a mailman wanting to do nonviolent protest....    What has been explained to you and what you seem to be unable to grasp is that while WE can operate from the benefit of hindsight,  the Secret Service doesn't have that luxury.   They have no way of knowing if nonviolent protest was ALL  that he had planned.   What if he had more plans than just what he said he had planned on doing??    What if he had in mind to kill someone???     They would have had no one way to know in the present what was on his mind.

Shooting him down would have been the right thing to do, because they can't  read his mind.    If you were to see the president and all you wanted to do was shake his hand and you began to approach the president,  and the Secret Service told you to stop, but you went forward anyway, and ignore their commands for you to stop, they will shoot you.   It doesn't matter that you just wanted to shake the president's hand.   They are not going to "value"  your life.  That's not their job.  They value the life of the president or whoever they are tasked with protecting.

They don't have time to look for creative options and they don't have to.   This man was in the wrong and he is only lucky that someone else was asleep at the wheel and let him get away with doing something incredibly stupid.

Someone landed a drone on the roof of the Prime Minister of Japan yesterday.

It had a radioactive sticker on the side of it, and a small container containing cesium (the same stuff that laid waste to the Fukushima reactor) and two flares. It was probably a protest, but it is a frightening look into the possible future of terror attacks.

Well shiloh his life is important in the same sense as for if someone commits any other crime, it is the job of the police to arrest, charge, and put the person on trial if at all possible... Not simply to shoot them and justify it.

His life is important to us and to the Lord but his life is meaningless to the secret service. Their job is solely to protect the ones they are assigned to protect. At any cost. Even at the cost of their own lives. The life of some nut on a gyrocopter is not of any importance to them.
