Guest LadyC

to me the question isn't about the dress requirement. that's probably established by the mosque. the bigger question is why are they visiting a mosque in the first place?

in any case, field trips are optional. my kids would never be going on one like this.

Yes I would be more upset that they are visiting a mosque. Would they also visit a church?

As for the dress code, its not a big deal to conform to the dress code of a place you are visiting. Mike and I went to a local greek orthodox monastery known for its landscape gardens. (Its how the brothers support themselves, by designing gardens for people.) They gave me a long skirt and scarf to wear. Then offered us delicious cookies and a cool drink before we wandered around. I had no problems with putting on the clothes.

I would agree with the others.  The dress code doesn't bother me; but rather, what are they teaching them?

The lack of integrity in the article really bothers me. Why are they focusing on the mosque visit when they are visiting a jewish synagogue and a christian church as well. Can they be certain that all the students are christian? If not then why is Boyles not getting upset at that? I doubt they can be muslim, jewish & christian at the same time after all.

Actually, the rule of thumb is when u enter a mosque, u have to cover yourselves. It is the same everywhere even in malaysia. Muslim or not. This is understandable as you are entering a place of worship. Some church goers do cover their heads. As long as they are not being forced to pray like the muslims, should be fine.

I'm not sure why the focus is always so much on dress codes vis a vis Islam. If you were to visit an orthodox Jewish synagogue, there would be all sorts of restrictions that way yet I don't hear the outrage. Ayin's example is even more interesting insofar they are Christians. None of that is to lend credibility to Islam as a religion, but worrying about wearing a headscarf inside a mosque seems like the wrong thing to get up in arms about.
