These events taking place along the Levant -- Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Gaza, N. Egypt -- appear to be leading (quickly?) up to the time when the King of the North invades and occupies all of these countries, as well as Libya and Cush. Agree or disagree?

 

My opinion has long been that the King of the North will descend from Europe, probably under NATO; but who the man is who will lead the occupation is the big unanswered question.  (Although I am convinced that it will be the Son of Perdition, who is not the Beast.) Agree or disagree (not counting the SoP part.)

Yes, I agree with that way of trying to work out Daniel 11. The compass directions could be from one point, say the river near Babylon where the visions occurred, or relative to the ruling power talked about. 

China and Russia are the obvious North and East of today, and the Kings of the east, as opposed to the west, are mentioned in the last plagues Rev 16:12. (It seems like at that point the west is too weak to respond, unless the west follows or whatever).

I think it is urgent that we find out the meaning of Daniel 11:40 on, because I believe it is about to happen, and chapter 12 will start, which is practically the end.

I am puzzled about verse 45, which indicates that the power from the north is religious, seeing that it has "tabernacles of his palace."

"Tabernacles" can mean, house, tent, temple, sanctuary etc, while "palace" is throne, royalty, rule, politics. Islam is a politically backed religion, and has its mosques right on the holy hill, and the prediction is that it will come to an end, and none will help. Islamic countries have had the backing of various powers, such as Europe, Russia, the US, but now it seems to be at an end. It's been a while since both Russia and America removed the support to the same power. What do you think?

Could it be, that once this old Ottoman (a continuation of the Muslims) empire settled in Jerusalem and the middle east, having had control over the treasures of Egypt, and later retreated to Turkey, is now facing the threat of Russia and China?

Dan. 12:1 “At that time Michael shall stand up...

Dan. 11:45 “And he shall plant the tents of his pavilion between the seas at/unto the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and no one will help him."

What can this be but the Abomination of Desolation upon Mount Moriah, the "glorious holy mountain"? Immediately followed by the GT, as witnessed by 12:1's "time of trouble such as never was."

Yes, I understand that Turkey is still considered to be the Capital of the Islamic world, and that all of its support will vanish. I am probably not thinking in the same lines as you, but we sense that these significant prophecies are about to be fulfilled, and that we need to be prepared in our hearts to remain connected and loyal to God.

Could China ,now the most powerful commercial power be in this 'picture'  ?  It has been wounded ,and recovered, and is a great unknown to us in the west . Militarily it is behind the U.S. but it worries me a lot, as a potential threat which could come while we are not looking ?

Under the reorganization, all branches of the armed forces would come under a joint military command, Xi told a meeting of military officials in Beijing, the official Xinhua News Agency reported. Bloomberg in September reported details of the plan, which may also seek to consolidate the country’s seven military regions to as few as four.

The Chinese president said the reform aimed to "build an elite combat force" and called on the officials to make "breakthroughs" on establishing the joint command by 2020, Xinhua said. Xi announced the changes at the end of a three-day meeting attended by about 200 top military officials, Xinhua said.

 

Xi, who also became chairman of the Central Military Commission upon taking power in 2012, is directly managing the overhaul. He made a public display of his commitment to the reforms when he announced that the People’s Liberation Army would shed 300,000 troops at a September military parade in Beijing to mark the 70th anniversary of Japan’s defeat in World War II.

"This is the biggest military overhaul since the 1950s," said Yue Gang, a retired colonel in the PLA’s General Staff Department. "The reform shakes the very foundations of China’s Soviet Union-style military system and transferring to a U.S. style joint command structure will transform China’s PLA into a specialized armed force that could pack more of a punch in the world."

Both, but not necessarily at the same time. If the U.S. is the country of the man who is the earthly representative of the King of the North (who "shall come to his end, and no one will help him," Dan. 11:45), then it is likely that those "of the north and east [who] shall trouble him" will try to take out the U.S. first. A good bet as things now appear; but much yet remains to be revealed. Which is why we must keep closely watching.
