(And anyone who hasn't checked out the link above, do so -- it's a hoot!) First off, the angel told John who the woman was, so there could be no mistake: Rev. 17:18 “And the woman whom you saw is [present tense] that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth.” That was Rome. The angel was talking to John in his own time, as the heavenly messengers did a number of times throughout Revelation. There is no textual justification for futurizing this statement of the angel. Secondly, NYC doesn't really rule the world. The people who control the real levers of world economic power reside in Europe, and they are the ones who control the Federal Reserve, a private bank with foreign ownership. And when it suits their purpose, they will backstab America in a heartbeat. Now all this is not to say that NYC, along with many other American cities, won't be burned or otherwise destroyed, for they certainly will be. But that is another topic dealing with such passages as Isaiah 17 and Gen. 49:22-26, having been discussed elsewhere. But I'll quote one pertinent passage here anyway: Is. 17:10 Because you have forgotten the God of your salvation, And have not been mindful of the Rock of your stronghold... 11 [Your] harvest will be a heap of ruins In the day of affliction and desperate sorrow. Blessed are the poor, for they had nothing to lose in the first place, and those who gave everything up by not taking the Mark of the Beast, for they already came out of Babylon, therefore it will not hurt them to see all these materials destroyed, because they did not swap their inheritance in order to keep this woman's goods. They may also be purposely manipulating our weather, through HAARP, which was developed to change the atmospheric pressure. HAARP can create droughts, tornado's, floods and even change jet streams. The government is creating chemtrails in the sky, as well as producing GMO foods, which do not re-produce any seeds. I have a hunch that famines will be coming very soon. But maybe, just maybe, because we are the world superpower we will be in there somehow someway. In addition, if you think America/NYC is what rev 17/18 is alluding to, it is not good, which means America could be neutralized before the Beast and his prophet do their thing. Because John used the verb "is" instead of "will be" (future) then it has to be a city in existence at that time (present)? is this interpretation agreed upon by everyone who studies prophecy?
