Plead my cause, O Lord, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.

Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help.

Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.

(Psalm 35:1-3)

Monty *G - Plead My Cause

another from Monty *G -- who i love very much

i couldn't locate a lyric file for this, and he has a particularly thick accent, and uses a language variant that's probably a bit foreign to us -- but here i transcribed a small part of it i wanted especially to put down for whoever reads my posts:

anytime you see the wicked people, dem who wan come back-bite you,

who wan come slander your name, gwan then and tell them this - and everyone gwan and sing along this with me now:

♪ la de dah, dah dah ♫

we are protected by the Most High,

bless and no curse me, nor trod against I

we are protected by the Most High!

Him bless and no curse me, nor trod against I

shine, shine like the star you are!

them voodoo not stop you, them badman can't harm you

-- so it's a song telling us to take courage, knowing who we are in Christ. the world will fight against us, but the One in us is greater than the one who is in the world :) -- live taking hold of your freedom in Christ, seizing fully that love which casts out all fear, knowing that the Most High is faithful to you!
shine! shine like the stars that you are!

another "pillar" in Christian Reggae -- odd that i've gotten so far into this thread without mentioning them, is Christifari, who has been a group since 1990, and quickly became popular not only in Jamaica but across America during the 90's Christian alternative music "boom" --
they are probably among the most accessible to American listeners, and for a lot of Americans, maybe the only Christian reggae they have ever heard of. most of their songs are not thick in patois (the Jamaican language variant of English), and they actually cover a number of popular Christian worship songs that Americans are familiar with via our country's gospel radio networks.

the lead singer is an American, Mark Mohr, who moved to Jamaica and was a Rastifarian until hearing and believing the true gospel at a Christian camp, and being born again at the age of 17. they are very active in missions and evangelism among Rastifarians -- Mark has an empathy and heart toward them, to see them all accept the real Messiah. a member of the band, his wife Avion Blackman (featured in this video) has also been very successful as a solo artist in Christian reggae.

in 1997 there was a split in the original band's lineup, with some wanting to go more mainstream, as they were becoming very popular as musicians not just among Christian circles. but Mohr was steadfast in his purpose for the music, not wanting to compromise the message in the songs for the sake of money or fame - and as a group Christifari remains unmistakeably Christ-centered in worship and evangelism. despite this decision, or perhaps because of it, God has blessed these people and this band with worldwide popularity & success - through them as a group, God has touched and changed lives all over the world.

here's one of Christifari's songs with a message that i think we all would be blessed to keep in our hearts and minds at all times :)

Christifari - He is Greater

I am lifted, when I lift You up
My spirit's raised when You are praised
I am lifted, when I lift You up
My spirit's raised when You are praised

When I lift you up
You fill my cup, You fill my cup
When I lift you up
You fill my cup, oh Lord, You fill my cup

Well, He is greater than my problems
And He is greater than my pain
Only God alone can solve them
In Him I will remain

Yes, He is greater than my sickness
So I'll call upon His name
In my weakness He's the greatest
To Him I will proclaim

Yes You are greater, He is greater
He is greater than I
He is greater, He is greater
He is greater than I
My God is greater, He is greater
He is greater than I
Yes, He is greater, He is greater
He is greater than I

Sometimes the woes in life they can multiply
But then I lift my eyes and look up to the sky
If You created this whole world and all within
Than You are greater than all of my problems

Well, God is greater than your trials
And greater than your fears
Just cast on Him your sorrows
He'll wipe away your tears

Yes, God is greater than tomorrow
And He'll see you through your pain
Because the one who kneels before the Lord
Can stand up against anything

Yes God is greater, He is greater
He is greater than I
He is greater, He is greater
He is greater than I
My God is greater, He is greater
He is greater than I
Yes, He is greater, He is greater
He is greater than I

I am lifted, when I lift You up
My spirit's raised when You are praised
I am lifted, when I lift You up
My spirit's raised when You are praised

When I lift you up
You fill my cup, You fill my cup
When I lift you up
You fill my cup, oh Lord, You fill my cup

So I won't put my trust in vanity
Don't rely on myself
Nah place my hope in humanity
'Cause everyone will fail

There's only One who lived a perfect life
And died to save
He rose again out of the grave
There's no one else so great

He is greater, He is greater
He is greater than I
He is greater, He is greater
He is greater than I
My God is greater, He is greater
He is greater than I
Yes, He is greater, He is greater
He is greater than I

Greater is He that lives in me
He must increase, and I must decrease
Greater is He that lives in me
He must increase, and I must decrease

He is greater, He is greater
He is greater than I
He is greater, He is greater
He is greater than I
My God is greater, He is greater
He is greater than I
Yes, He is greater, He is greater
He is greater than I

in keeping with that theme that God is greater -- we ought also to remember, that not only is our battle not against the things in the world, but against spiritual forces, but also that it is not us who fights, but God who fights for us -- as Moses told the Israelites when Egypt's armies were pinning them against the Sea of Reeds,

The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.
(Exodus 14:14)

it is Him who works in us and through us -- that's the meaning of this songs title, "A Nuh Me" -- i.e. "it's not me"

could not find a lyric file, and this brother of ours has a thick patois accent and fast-rapping style that is a combination of roots-reggae and NYC hip-hop. sorry about that. but here is the chorus, which is representative of the message in all that he is saying in this song:

no weapon that is formed against me shall prosper

i watch the whole of them a disappear like jasper

a nuh me, a nuh me, a nuh me a go fight no army

a nuh me, a nuh me, a nuh me - Jehovah Jireh

Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
(Exodus 14:13-14)

nah 'fraid a Pharoah

:)
