There are a few things that people often miss in the interpretation of the parable....
about the wheat and the tares, as well as in many other things....
written in the Scriptures....

First, one absolutely needs to understand that "heaven" means the "sky," that is, the earth's "atmosphere."....
Christians have the same misunderstanding about "Heaven"....
as the Pharisees and the Sadducees did

Beloved, First About That Absolute Understanding

Here is another story Jesus told: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a farmer who planted good seed in his field. But that night as the workers slept, his enemy came and planted weeds among the wheat, then slipped away. When the crop began to grow and produce grain, the weeds also grew.

“The farmer’s workers went to him and said, ‘Sir, the field where you planted that good seed is full of weeds! Where did they come from?’

“‘An enemy has done this!’ the farmer exclaimed. “‘Should we pull out the weeds?’ they asked.

“‘No,’ he replied, ‘you’ll uproot the wheat if you do. Let both grow together until the harvest. Then I will tell the harvesters to sort out the weeds, tie them into bundles, and burn them, and to put the wheat in the barn.’” Matthew 13:24-30 (New Living Translation)

We Do Have The Master's Voice....

When Jesus had sent the people away, he went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, "Explain what the illustration of the weeds in the field means." He answered, "The one who plants the good seeds is the Son of Man. The field is the world. The good seeds are those who belong to the kingdom. The weeds are those who belong to the evil one. The enemy who planted them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the world. The workers are angels.

Just as weeds are gathered and burned, so it will be at the end of time. The Son of Man will send his angels. They will gather everything in his kingdom that causes people to sin and everyone who does evil. The angels will throw them into a blazing furnace. People will cry and be in extreme pain there.

Then the people who have God's approval will shine like the sun in their Father's kingdom. Let the person who has ears listen!

Be Blessed Beloved Of The KING

The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them. Numbers 6:24-27 (King James Bible)

Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever. Psalms 119:160 (King James Bible)

The Bible contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners, and the happiness of believers. Its doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding, its histories are true, and its decisions are immutable.

Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy. It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you.

It is the traveler’s map, the pilgrim’s staff, the pilot’s compass, the soldier’s sword and the Christian’s charter. Here too, Heaven is opened and the gates of Hell disclosed.

Christ is its grand subject, our good its design, and the glory of God its end. It should fill the memory, rule the heart and guide the feet. Read it slowly, frequently and prayerfully.  It is a mine of wealth, a paradise of glory, and a river of pleasure.

It is given you in life, will be opened at the judgment, and be remembered forever. It involves the highest responsibility, rewards the greatest labor, and will condemn all who trifle with its sacred contents.

Shabbat shalom, FresnoJoe.

You're absolutely right; Yeshua` DID say that this parable of the wheat and tares (weeds) was about the Kingdom, that is, its people, but He also told us that this parable was about the KINGDOM, that is, its RULE! I'm going to make a statement and then explain what I mean:

Christians today are NOT IN His Kingdom. (Neither are the Jews, btw.)

What Yeshua` did NOT say in the parable above is WHEN this would occur! Oh, He told us when the judgment would come; that is, the judgment (the GWTJ) would occur at the end of the AGE (translated as "world" in the GOD'S WORD® Translation above, but the Greek word being "aioonos" = "age," not "kosmos" = "world" nor "gee" = "earth"). However, we have TWO periods before that occurs.

The first period is the time in which we are living which lasts from the time Yeshua` left this earth to the time when He returns.

The second period is commonly called the "Millennium," which is Latin for the "thousand years," an English translation of the Greek words "chilia etee" that occur six times in Revelation 20:1-7.

Many make the error in thinking that the two periods are one period. This comes from the amillennial position.

This parable is NOT a reference to the current, first period. It's about the SECOND period, the time of the Millennium. "The Kingdom of heaven is like...," "the Kingdom from the sky is like...," but the Kingdom that comes from the sky is the Kingdom that is ruled by the KING who comes from the sky!

Acts 1:6-11
6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying,
Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
11 Which also said,
Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven (into the sky)? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven (into the sky), shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven (into the sky).
KJV

In other words, just as He went into the sky and was hidden by a cloud, so He shall return through a cloud and come down from the sky!

Yeshua` told us in two different ways when His Kingdom would begin:

First, He told us by parable:

Luke 19:11-28
11 And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear.
12 He said therefore,
A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.
13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.
14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.
15 And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.
16 Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.
17 And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.
18 And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.
19 And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.
20 And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin:
21 For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow.
22 And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow:
23 Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?
24 And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.
25 (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.)
26 For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.
27 But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

28 And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem.
KJV

Second, He told us by prophecy:

Matthew 25:31-46
31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
KJV

Thus, His Kingdom rule won't begin until He has returned.

Paul gives us a good picture of how this will happen in the Resurrection Chapter:

1 Corinthians 15:20-28
20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.
21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.
24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.
25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.
26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
27 For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith, all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.
28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.
KJV

Remember: Paul's purpose in writing this chapter is to support the concept of the Resurrection, both...

1. in the "Firstfruits," Yeshua`, when He rose from the dead on the third day after His death, and ...
2. in the Second Coming (vs. 23 above), and ...
3. in "the end" ("the end of the age" that Yeshua` said would come in Matt. 13:39, vs. 24 above, and in what John said would happen after the Millennium in Revelation 20:11-15, particularly verses 12-13).

Thus, Yeshua`s mission during the first 1000 years of His Kingdom will be to build His Father's Kingdom, the World Empire, subduing all of His enemies until the last enemy, Death, is also destroyed.

The parables about the Kingdom (Matthew 13) are about THIS first 1000 years of His Kingdom, which won't begin until the Messiah Yeshua` - Yeshua` the King-Elect - returns.

Our purpose until the Messiah returns is to build for Him a population of subjects for His Kingdom. We are to OCCUPY until He comes (Luke 19:13)! We are TO "BE WITNESSES unto Him both in Jerusalem (Yerushalayim), and in all Judaea (Y'hudah = the Jews), and in Samaria (Showmrown, where the northern 10 tribes used to live), and unto the uttermost part of the earth" (Acts 1:8)! We can consider ourselves subjects FOR His Kingdom to come, but the Kingdom hasn't arrived, yet, because HE, THE KING, hasn't arrived, yet!

Good stuff above

My comment

The sheep and goat separation proceeds the Lord's coming millennial kingdom upon the earth for Israel [Matthew 24:29-31] .... for the nations of the Gentiles [Matthew 25;31-46; Revelation 20:4]

The separation of the weeds from the wheat proceeds His coming eternal kingdom [Revelation 20:11-15; 21]
