We are not supposed to be unevenly yoked. That means with a marriage partner or a best friend. We are not supposed to take secular advice as a Christian from a nonbeliever.

I would not limit that to marriage partners, and see no reason to assume to apply it to best friends, with some reservations.

You would not want to be in any sort of a relationship, where the influence of the unbeliever is going to affect your Christian witness, nor temp to to engage  in things which you should not as a believer.

For example, if hanging with an unbelieving friend leads to you hanging out ad drinking in bars, getting drunk, then drop the relationship. If partnering with an unbeliever in business, leads to you cheating a little on you business taxes, or making unnecessary repairs to a customer's car, then unequal yoking is not going to be good for you. Jesus did not avoid sinners, and that is an example for us. However, we cannot join them in their sins.

Bottom line is, how will a relationship tend to affect how you live?

Exactly. We are of this world not in this world. We are not to have an influence from an unbeliever. A casual friend would be someone who you would just have a casual conversation with. But if anything comes up in regards to Chrisitanity I certainly would tell them what I believe and why. That may just get rid of that casual friend. Or.....they may come back for more answers. That is what you want.
