Not death. "Not death" even though that is precisely what that verse says????? You ignore what is plainly stated, and then come up with your own fanciful interpretation? This cavalier attitude to Scripture is becoming more and more prevalent since we are indeed in the great apostasy.

Yes indeed, and it started in Europe decades ago, IMO. If I have been guilty of cavalierism, please instruct and we can discuss it. Thanks. Thanks. ZacharyB, I wouldn't say that you are guilty of cavalierism. However, you fundamental premises about this subject are incorrect. The questions you need to ask yourself are as follows: 1. According to the Gospel, is eternal life a free gift of God's grace or can it be earned somehow? 2. Is the crown of life a reward for those who endure great afflictions and martyrdom, or is it not? 3. Are the various crowns mentioned in Scripture all identical, or are they different, and given for different reasons?

IMO, the gospel's famous verses, such as John 3:16, catch the little fishes in God's net and gets the elect (His chosen ones) started on the road to eternal life. Later, the Holy Spirit starts to reveal spiritual truths to them. These elect have indeed been saved by God's grace. Then God's warnings keep them on the straight and narrow. They do co-operate with being fully sanctified unto holiness. Co-operation (using one's free will) with God's Salvation Plan is necessary. All of the Scriptures (including the warnings) are really for no one else. Because all of the others end up in hell regardless of everything. They do however produce a much more civilized society ... with people trying to earn their way to heaven, and get rewards even! Made me immediately go to Alison Krauss to play "Down To The River To Pray". Near as I know there are mention of some eight crowns, in English language Bibles, nine counting the use of the word diadem; but then all crowns are diadem are they not? Life, Glory, Beauty, Righteousness, Twelve stars, Of Thorns, Of her husband, and Diadem- Plus the crown worn as Jesus comes a conquering. What is that, eight, nine? And we are warned to hold fast less we lose a crown. For me that is warning, that it is how I will finish the race that counts, I may be saved and still enter into eternity with our Lord and savior, without a single crown or mark of excellence (diadem), should I not guard myself and finish the race well. As I see it, there is no sitting back, nor retirement in service to our Lord and savior Jesus. Always (I) need to have the mindset of leaning forward into the tape that marks reaching victory in running the race. Jesus clearly said in Matt 13 ... -- Both wheat and tares(weeds) exist together in the Kingdom of god(Heaven). -- They are basically indistinguishable as "Christians" as they exist side by side in God's Kingdom. -- The tares(weeds) will be gathered out of the Kingdom at the end of the age and thrown into the fire.
