It could hit 120 degrees. That has only happened 3 times in our history, all in the 1990s.

It was already 100 or close to it when I got to church this morning, and that was before 10 am. Fun times. Last time it got near this hot I was working construction and one of my coworkers called it the "Day of the Exploding Radiator" due to all the overheated vehicles all over town.

I'm inside and intend to stay there until after sundown - or tomorrow morning when I go to work!

Phoenix set a new record for today with it's high of 118 degrees! That also means we tied for the 5th hottest day ever on record for Phoenix.

We went the only ones with record heat here are a few more spots around the state.

Yuma - 120 old record is 115

Tucson 115 old record is 110

Prescott 102 old record 99

Flagstaff 92 old record 92

Phoenix has only hit 118° nine other times in its history...Phoenix has only hit 119° once, that happening on June 29, 2013.

At least one heat related death so far. Someone took a hike this morning and was found not breathing.

Had one yesterday too.

Dry heat kills. Wish folks would stop thinking dry heat is just fine.

A recent pic of Arizona:

P.s. if 4 short, barefoot people with funny clothes come through with a mysterious ring, give em a hand it means the heat is about over!

I sure hope you have a/c. Doesn't most everyone in Arizona have a/c? California is supposed to get to 115 degrees. I don't have a/c

I have ac. But going from 118 to 75 puts quite a strain on it. Lots of ac's tend to break down in the summer. Thats always fun. (Not) Some folks have swamp coolers. That will only cool things down so far, and when its this hot, its not far enough. And when its monsoon season and the humidity rises, swamp coolers are useless.

The hard part though is the cost of the ac. My summer bills can be around $250. Older homes without good insulation can go up to $400. Elderly cant afford that, so they either do without or have it set so high they have heat issues. And die. Which is why I was so upset when our democrat governor janet napolitano said that we needed to develop green technologies. When told that would drive up electricity costs and hurt the poor, she said she didnt care. That was the first step to me breaking from the democrat party.

No its not. We have had extremely hot temps in the early 1900s too, back when my area was merely a small farming town. Not the large city (6th largest in the us) that it is today, with asphalt and concrete producing a large urban heat island effect. The past few summers have actually been quite cool in my area. I think the has more to do with the pacific decadel oscillation than anything else. If it was due to global warming, it would have steadily been hotter, not less hot.

Today, the temp is 3 degrees warmer this morning than it was yesterday.
