Hi Christopher, and Welcome,

If you have never read The Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah by Alfred Edersheim, you should do so. He writes about John the Baptist in Volume I, chapter XI, p. 255 and following. You can find this book on the internet.

Well, we know by his name that he was a Baptist, I dont think he was a Southern Baptist because he was very conservative, also he wasn't a Free Will Baptist, but he may have been an Independent Baptist, or a Missionary Baptist-- hope this helps some!

John the Baptist also announced Jesus coming.

"Baptizer" would have been more helpful. But there are some Baptists (Landmark) who claim to trace their lineage back to John. The only problem is that his was a baptism unto repentance for Israel.
