(Worthy News) - A pair of Islamic State-linked terrorists slit a priest’s throat at the altar of a Catholic church in northern France on Tuesday before videotaping a “sermon” in Arabic to mark the ritualistic slaughter — the fourth attack in a week by the terrorist group, which since June has claimed responsibility for killing more than 600 people in several countries, including the U.S.

The killing of the Rev. Jacques Hamel, 85, as he celebrated Mass at a small church near Rouen, marked the first time that the Iraq/Syria-based group targeted a church in the West, sending a shudder through religious communities that have highlighted the militants’ persecution of Christians in the Middle East.

“I’m not aware of another one in the West. However, their targeting of Christianity and looking at this as a religious war is not new,” said Travis Weber, director of the Center for Religious Liberty at the Family Research Council, a conservative think tank in Washington. [ Source ]

The mosque in the town where this occurred was built on land donated by the church. Hows that for gratitude.

Turns out the priest was actually beheaded while his parishioners helplessly looked on.

The man who killed him was in prison and was released by a French judge because the man promised him he was trying to reform his ways.  I can imagine no one in France  is happy with that judge.

Source: Attack Inside French Church Shocks West, but Not Christians in Africa

The murder Tuesday of an elderly priest inside a church in France during Mass shocked and sickened the West, but Christians in Africa have long known there is no sanctuary from radical Islamic terrorism.

In 2015, more than 2,000 Christian churches in Africa were attacked by terrorists, and more than 7,000 Christians were killed, according to the advocacy group Open Doors USA. Those figures show terrorist groups like ISIS, which claimed credit for Tuesday's attack, as well as Al Shabaab and Boko Haram, will not hesitate to kill inside a house of worship.

"News of the murdered priest in Normandy has shaken many to the core,” David Curry, president and CEO of Christian Watchdog group Open Doors USA told FoxNews.com. “While in Nigeria, an average of five churches are attacked every Sunday, this is the first documented case of Western Christians being attacked by ISIS during a worship service."

In Tuesday's attack, self-professed ISIS soldiers Abdel-Malik Nabil Petitjean and Adel Kermiche stormed a Catholic church in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray during morning Mass and took hostages before killing 85-year-old priest Jacques Hamel.

Geography aside, the incident bore similarities to hundreds of attacks that have occurred in Africa, where in 2015 alone more than 2,400 Christian churches were struck by terrorists.

Nigeria has been hardest hit, due to the ruthless brutality of militant Islamist group Boko Haram. Huge numbers of the country's Christian churches have been destroyed.
