What are the hinderances that keep us from growth and progress in our spiritual life?

Sin and ourselves. We can blame anything or anyone else, but it all boils down to how sin affects the flesh or "the old man" as scripture calls it.

trusting in ourselves, and other men.

putting our hope in things that moth and rust destroy.

not having contentedness, but exchanging peace for covetousness and vanity.

failing to comprehend that Jesus told us in this life, we will have tribulation.

thinking we have drunk of His water, but still being thirsty.

thinking we have eaten of His table, but still being hungry.

setting our hope on our own pleasure, instead of His.

leaning on our own understanding.

covetousness.

the lust of the eyes and the flesh and the pride of life.

not considering yourself dead to such things.

seeking your own gain ((i.e. your own 'spiritual growth' and 'progress')) instead of seeking His glory.

believing you are worthy.

believing you are able.

believing you "made a choice."

believing you are wise.

believing you have understanding.

failing to love mercy.

failing to walk humbly before God.

having no fear of Him.

having an "over-realized eschatology"

((i.e. expecting that your flesh should be redeemed before the time He has purposed))

Hebrews 3:6 - "Whose house we are, if we hold fast our boldness and the glorying of our hope firm unto the end."

Many believers, who for a time run well, get so entangled in the business or the pleasure of life, the literature, or the politics, or the friendships of the world, that all the life and the power of their profession (in Christ) is lost.

They do not understand that they must always walk by faith (in God's CALLING on their life) -- that every day and every hour nothing can help us but a clear, definite, habitual faith in God's power and working, as the only possibility of growth and progress.
