it is not in the bible that Mary had children other than Jesus - so where did Protestants get it from that she did and why do they still believe it and accept it  - wincam

Jesus had brothers and sisters, as Logan has pointed out above.

Something to consider:  This is the 2nd time you have declared something not to be in the Bible only to have people show you chapter and verse where you're wrong.  Perhaps you need to test your claims a little better before jumping on here and claiming that certain things are not in the Bible.   A good concordance would be very helpful in that regard.

not at all - it only says Jesus's mother is called Mary - not that His brothers are her children - slipshod, careless reading of the Bible has and is causing a lot of problems - wincam

If the bothers were not her children, where did they come from?  Being brothers indicates at least one parent in common.

Technically, they were his half brothers and half sisters since Jesus was not the son of Joseph.   But nevertheless, they are called his brothers and sisters and kicking against the goads will not change what the Bible says.   The Catholics deny the plain reading of the text and Greek and impose an inferior and sloppy hermeneutic when it comes to the Bible.

Its not an issue of why protestants stick to things not in the bible. Its moreso why catholics stick to false man made  doctrines in light of what the bible really says. What reason would there be for Jesus not having siblings? The bible clearly mentions his brothers and sisters, James, Joses, Simon, and Judas one of which (james) wrote a bible book.

This elevation of Mary borders on idolatry

It is idolatry.   But it doesn't stop with Mary.   The call the Pope the "vicar" of Christ.  The word "vicar" from the Latin for vicarious which means, "substitute."   The Pope is viewed as Jesus substitute on earth, basically God on earth. Even in popery, there is the element of idolatry.
