Hey everyone,

How would you respond to people who slander or make remarks about God in a vile way?

Saying stuff like, "God is cruel." and other things?

I tend to get defensive over the issue and I find myself always defending God or correcting them.

I would pray for them. If we come back in a caustic manner that does not make us any better than they are. I would then tell them what the Lord means to me and then put the situation in God's hands.

Yeah, I would pray for them too.

There's no telling why someone is upset with God and perhaps they've had

some tragedies in their life that they can't figure out and choose to blame

God for those types of things.

Still, there's nothing wrong with sharing your own experiences with God

in your life.

I would say if people really believed God is cruel...wouldn't they be afraid of Him? that they mock is proof of God's longsuffering.

I would ask for examples that are bothering them.

I often admonish people not to blame God for what satan has done.  God is always just, wise and puts up with an awful lot before he says enough is enough.

When people curse using His Name or speak evil of Him using His Name in vain, sometimes I tell the that God loves them anyway.  But I try to listen to the Holy Spirit to guide me as to what to do or say.  Sometimes I just walk away without a word if they are doing it just to irritate me.   Sometimes I reflect back to them by saying You must be a very tormented (pick one: unhappy, hurt, bitter etc.) person to say such a thing.

I would say to them "If you don't know much about Him and the things he's done for you then please don't criticize Him he's the ROCK I'm leaning on".  I too would pray God would reveal His Son Jesus to them.

My response would depend on why they are saying that. Regardless of the reason, I try to speak the truth in love, but my specific response would very likely be different to someone who lost a loved one than one who cannot afford their dream car. I would try to show them that God is love and for them to not to mistake a consequence of human actions/nature as something God did or did not do.
