But virtually no systems are in place to enforce that. In 46 states, anyone can walk into a store -- or click on a website -- and buy bullets, no questions asked. Earlier this week President Obama announced a series of executive actions on gun control -- a frank acknowledgment of the political impossibility of getting even the most modest gun background check bills through Congress. The idea that states could enforce background checks for those buying bullets seems far-fetched. Not so in California. "If someone isn't allowed to possess ammunition, we should probably make sure they can't buy it," says Yashar Hedayat, a spokesman for Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, who is spearheading a new effort on ammunition purchases. http://money.cnn.com/2016/01/07/news/gun-control-bullets/index.html
Guest shiloh357
It has been suggested before that since owning a firearm is constitutionally protected, they could simply ban ammunition. You can buy all the guns you want, but without the ammunition, the point of owning a gun is done away with. That's how liberals could circumvent the Constitution. Do you think that felons that have forfeited their right to bear arms should be allowed to buy ammo when they cannot buy a gun?

I don't think it matters because felons can get both on the black market, cheaper and in far greater quantity. So I think it is a useless law. Felons don't obey the law. That's why their felons. It's like anything else. The government starts by making laws and restricting freedoms in matters people will agree with in the name of protecting us. But the government doesn't know when to stop. It won't stop with felons. Pretty soon, they will have reasons for thinking that non-felons should not have certain kinds of hand gun and rifle ammo. And the types of ammo will expand over time. They don't making sweeping laws that just take away everything at once. They simply take a little here and a little there and in a few generations, people will not know what it was like when our country had freedom. There will always be black markets. It is rather easy to possess a gun. Maybe not legally but in this world do many care?

IF we are going to use this logic for guns, why not for every crime? and if we are not going to use it for every crime, why use it for guns? Would anyone agree if someone said 'We need to get rid of speed limits since speeders are going to speed any way"?

Would anyone agree if someone said 'We need to get rid of speed limits since speeders are going to speed any way"? The reason we use that "logic" is to combat the liberal idea that the way to fight gun violence is to write more laws limiting gun ownership. If criminals will not obey the existing laws, then writing more laws will not have a meaningful effect on them. Furthermore, the Left wants to, ultimately, ban guns. They want to ban semi autos like the AR-15 and other guns of similar ilk. And they want make sure that no mentally ill people own guns but then leave it up the government to define what "mentally ill" means. History recalls that Stalin's government made up an mental illness in order to justify locking up dissidents for "treatment." The liberal plan only hurts legitimate, law-abiding gun owners.
