Do you go straight to Heaven at death?

Does a person go straight to Heaven as soon as they die, or is it like they are asleep until the time that God comes back and reawakens them and remakes the world?  I have always wondered that.  I tend to think when you die that it is like you are in a deep sleep.  I know we talk about people in Heaven looking down on us.  However, how can they be happy in Heaven if they can see us suffering down here?  Also, wouldn't they miss us?  Makes no sense.  My opinion is that the dead know nothing.  It is just like it was before you were born.  You knew nothing before you were born.  I think death is the same way.

The Dead In Christ Will Raise First

Short Answer: Yes for those who are in Christ and saved by God's grace. See Acts 7 and 8 regarding Stephen's martyrdom.

I don't think it really matters...   unless one things one would be conscious and aware while in that sleep.  One dies and the next thing one knows is that there is Jesus.....

Muslims do believe they are conscious in the grave and is one reason they are instructed to memorize the Koran.   The exception is for those who die in Jihad, and their family.   Those go directly to heaven.

 

But for us, I can't see any difference in the perception of the dead person.

Bible says the Believer will not see death-- I think its gonna be like walking from the kitchen into the living room---- story of Lazarus the beggar does talk about the Angles carrying to Lazarus to Abrahams bosom-- so maybe we get an Angelic escort which I think would be mighty cool!!

A born again believer's soul goes to heaven immediately after they die.The body remains in the grave until the resurrection which is when the Church is raptured.

I agree, we take our last breathe here we take our next in Heaven for those of us that are in Christ.

How can one breathe when his body is turning into dust in the grave? In fact, how can one see, hear, speak, or even think when his body is corrupted? And it isn't just me who asked these questions....Psalms 6:5  For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?
Ecclesiastes 9:5  For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. 6  Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun. 10  Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

We do not have a soul that has its own personlaity and ability to communicate , feel, touch, taste, smell, without the body. Genesis clearly states that when "God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into him the breath of life, and man became a living soul."

Therefore we do not have a soul, we are a soul.

I think for the born again Christian who dies it is like when you close your eyes at night and start to dream. We do not remember going into that dream state. It is not painful. We are just there.
