That way when she finds out more about this situation she will not feel that you lied to her. I would tell her that her mother had to go away to take care of a situation. A lie like that is never good. She will question if the "situation" was more important then her. That's why you have to listen to Holy Spirit in your responses to her. The issue is not let the little girl think that she is unlovable and the woman clearly left to take care of a situation. the little girl need not know that the situation was her own family. As far as answering the question of was the situation was more important than her, you have to look at who she will be asking that question. Would any father, who stayed around tell her that it was. It certainly wasn't for him, but it was for her mom. You've got to understand that children personalize things. I finally came to the conclusion that she loved me enough to let me go and be loved by my step mom and my dad. It just seem everyone wants to complicate things, and if you notice the OP has not come back so this conversations is just not necessary as far as i"m concerned.
