In the Gospel of John, Jesus was offered food by his disciples and he said no.

He also did say that he has food that they do not know of. His food is to obey the will of the one who sent him and to finish the work he gave him to do. He told them that they have been saved, 4 more months and then the harvest.

So Jesus never went hungry? Jesus never ate?

Of course Jesus ate - he drank too.

  • He ate at the last supper.
  • He had lunch with Matthew and Zacchaeus
  • He ate fish with Peter after he resurrected
  • He ate with Cleopas and his friend on the road to Emmaus
  • He ate with friends ate Martha and Mary's house
  • He ate in Simon's house
  • On the cross - he cried out, "I thirst!"

There's got to be more.

In fact, Jesus was CRITICIZED for eating and drinking with people.

In Matthew 11:18 Jesus describes the hypocritical views of the religious leadership.  When John the Baptist came along with dietary restrictions ("neither eating or drinking"), they claimed John the Baptist was demon-possessed.  John the Baptist didn't literally not eat anything but held to special restrictions.

Then when Jesus came along eating and drinking like everyone else did, they called him a "glutton and a drunkard".  [Jesus ate and drank, but was neither a glutton nor a drunkard].

They rejected both John the Baptist and Jesus for ridiculous reasons.

And when Jesus went on a 40-day fast of no eating as a spiritual retreat, he was so weakened by that experience from no food that "angels had to minster to him".

He said to me, "Write, 'Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.'" He said to me, "These are true words of God." Revelation 19:9 (New Heart English Bible)

I think he was making a point here. His sustanance was more to help others than to satisfy himself at that point.

I do remember him going to a fig tree for food and not finding any their comanded it to fail and the next time it was referanced, the fig tree had withered up and died.

There is a lot of symbolisms that need to be thought out in the Bible. I think Christ taught by many of them. they were called parables, if I'm not mistaken.

Let's not forget that Jesus was also a man, when he came to Earth and had the bodily needs of a man.  Remember what he said about a prophet in his own home town.

http://Luke 4:24  And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.   This tells me that he was taken as an ordinary person in the town that he grew up in and he would have had to eat, sleep, drink and everything else that human's to for that to be true.

       Hi Jayne,

Grace and mercy and peace from our Lord Jesus Christ.

In general, I liked your post, mainly the phrase highlighted in green. This made me figure out the motive of the gossip against Jesus. Glory to Jesus for your life.

However, I would like to do a little correction. The Sacred Scripture doesn't say that Jesus ate with Cleopas and his friend, but that He broke the bread and gave it to them:

  • "When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished from their sight." (Luke 24.30,31 - English Standard Version).
