Far and away the best skill I learned in the military was how to get along with, and fit in with, people not like me. I joined the military having never met a Muslim and had maybe 5 non-white people in my high school. I think this is a great idea.

Her reasoning isnt to help those who need help, but to expose folks to other people and ways of thinking. While folks should broaden themselves, that shouldnt be the purpose of those groups nor should our taxes pay for it under that reason. The people I knew in the peace corps, waaay back in the 70s and 80s, were in it to help people. That was the purpose of that group. Not to broaden the horizons/thinking/etc of the ones in the peace corps.
