This present world we live in can prevent understanding ourselves, God, and His creation. Why? Because our main focus is supposed to be on The Gospel of Jesus Christ, and whether we will accept Him, or not. That is really our main purpose for being born into this world, i.e., to determine specifically who we will follow, ourselves, men, or our Heavenly Father and His Son. All else is secondary. For this reason an understanding of spiritual matters like God and Eternal Life through His Son usually do not come into one's understanding until it is accompanied by belief on Him. This is one of the main causes for those who cannot understand the deeper mysteries of God and His creation, they simply refuse to believe on Him and His Son. Thus their mind is filled only with what they can perceive with their fleshy senses of this present material world. That's their only base, lacking the basis of a relationship with The Creator by The Holy Spirit unto their spirit. These do not even realize they have a spirit in them that can influence their thinking and understanding depending on who they listen to and believe. That confusion is supposed to be alleviated for those who come to The Father and believe on His Son Jesus Christ and study His Word to show their selves approved of Him. Yet for many brethren, I still don't see this happening. For many they are still viewing and focusing mainly on the things of this present world instead of God's mysteries which are given to help prepare us for the world to come. When Apostle Peter spoke of the coming new heavens and a new earth after this present world is destroyed by God's consuming fire, he then asked what kind of conversation should those in Christ have today, seeing the things of this present world are to be destroyed. Can you grasp the devastation in the mind of a non-believer when they seriously face the fact that this present world is ordained to be destroyed by fire? But this thought should not cause that kind of effect upon us, because we know God has promised us better things than this present world of death. Think about it, this present world gone, destroyed. What then becomes our basis for understanding the world to come? The Word of God. When thinking about the world to come we can only... rely upon what God has shown us in His Word. That means we can only compare the things of this world that His Word shows us will remain. Do you know what things are to remain per God's Word, and what things of this world will be destroyed in that future burning fire Peter told us about in 2 Peter 3:10? Considering how we are already destroying this world just from the waste we produce from our economic pursuits, how the very creatures we were given dominion over and to be the caretakers of has turned into another major failure on our part, and the daily suffering we inflict on each other should be enough for any sane person to want to seek a better alternative life/afterlife. We know from God's word that Heaven will be a better place than this world. Is that not enough to know considering the alternative? He will fill us in on the details when we are with Him in Heaven. I thought this may be of interest as well since it is all scriptural based. http://www.bibleinfo.com/en/questions/where-is-heaven Cheers Edited June 10, 2018 by RockyMidnight

Only the surface of this earth is going to be destroyed, not the whole planet. And the Heavenly dimension is going to be revealed right here, on earth. God's Garden of Eden was once upon this earth per Genesis 2, and His River flowed out of His Eden to feed four other rivers upon the earth, two of which we still know where they are (Euphrates and Tigris). The earth is forever, and God said He did not create it tohuw ("without form"), He created it to be inhabited (Isa.45:18).
