After everything that CNN has done to show that it cannot be trusted in the least, why post anything from CNN?  As to discrimination, who knows really what happened and why.

I have several news resources I go to. Delta airlines dropped the ball. When they asked for a qualified doctor or nurse and this black lady raised her hand they should have instantly asked for her credentials. They then went onto some else. The reason they can not get a hold of her now is probably because her attorney said not to do so.

Whatever colour you are, you would feel slighted if you were rejected for help of any kind because you arent carrying your credentials on your person.

I work with children but I dont carry my credentials  for that around with me.

I have NEVER heard of anyone having to show their first aid certificate when help has been asked for in an emergency.

Regardless of the air stewards motive, she made a dumb decision.

Anyone knows that in emergencies, time is of the essence.

Look at Princess Diana.

The article says there were at least three other people who offered help and they asked the one who had credentials with him to help. How is that a bad thing?

I think what was asked - is there a Dr on board?

The woman put her hand up - Yes Im a Dr.

Air stewardess said its ok sweetie or something like that.

Was announced second time and male Dr was chosen with his credentials.

Nothing is wrong with asking to show credentials Logan, I think her question is why was she disregarded when she responded first.

I have no idea what the air stewards personal motive is but in emegencies- any emegencies- time is of the essence for greater survival rate.

Time is lost if you are checking out credentials - just get in there and help.

Thats what the layman with first aid cetificate does - says he has first aid training then gets in there and helps.

An airlines has to get medical credentials from a person before they can give medical help. Any one can say they are a doctor or a nurse. If they made a bad move and the person who they were working on died and the airlines was asked if they asked for the credentials and they said no they could be sued. All medical professionals should carry credentials at all times. If they don't then don't come forward to help. But where the airlines were wrong was that they did not ask the black doctor for her credentials from the very beginning. She can probably get them for discrimination.

Please tell me MM that in the US a regular person with first aid training can help on a plane if no Dr is available or not carrying their medical ctedentials if they've forgotten to pack them..

Yes, but the airlines can not take her word that she is a doctor. They need credentials. It has not always been that way   but today it is. Because there are so many lawsuits.

They may first take a doctor, then a nurse and if neither one of them are available they would take someone with first aid credentials. Even a person who has  CPR and first aid credentials. It is very rare that they would not be able to find one of those who are somewhat qualified.
