But folk have said they may respect someone but not like them - this picture of honouring(if we switch the word to respect) doesnt seem to gel with that thinking... However, in Peter 2 v 17, loving the brotherhood , Peter is certainly talking about fellow believers only. Respect or (honour) is for all humanity. To honour seems more powerful verb than respect. 2 Peter v 17: Be respectful to all - keep loving the brotherhood, fearing God and honouring the emperor. Complete Jewish Bible Honour all people. An example is one that , the believing servants of unbelieving masters had as part of their duty to look after the idols in their masters household, and had as in the past participate in those activities, Peter and Paule instruct that if your master wants you to be present, because he wants all under his authority to honor his Gods, follow his guide lines, do not cause problems , by imitating Daniel, because he has authority over your well being and your life, Paul said, submit to your masters, maybe by seeing your willigness to be a good servant , if some how there is a change in the servant after he had believe, perhaps he maybe interested to here the Gospel, e.x. If you had the chance to save him from drowning, do it, and save him even you may wish that he is dead, to end his mistreatment to you and others, and do not withdraw your support if he is attact by thiefs, they way David withdraw his support to have his captain keel, and take his wife, or for the servant to gain his freedom, one way to look at it. I still honor my dad, who's living, but I am not told to honor my unsaved siblings, who I have nothing in common with. I do pray for them and live then from afar as they are toxic people. Phobeo is pronounced fah BEH oh. Greek for a variety of meanings like worry or discomfort but in the NT fear can bet understood as a healthy understanding of who God is, His power and what He expects of us as believers. The unbeliever should tremble in terror before such a God, for He is the one who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
