The Kremlin is sending the full might of its Northern Fleet and part of the Baltic Fleet to reinforce a final assault on the city of Aleppo in a fortnight, according to Western intelligence. The final bombardment is designed to shore up the Assad regime by wiping out rebels – paving the way for a Russian exit from the civil war. Does Russia want another Afganistan. I think they learn their lesson well from a persistent enemy who sent them home weeping and bruised. As in America they say " show of force " has some merit, as the enemy looks at his odds of survival and either flee or surrender or face his demise. The fleet is not for Aleppo, it is for the US.

Guest Teditis
I think that the US has less of a reason for being in Syria than Russia has... at least in this instance. I believe that the US would show great wisdom in pulling out and allowing Russia the space it needs to accomplish their mission. (With the caveat that they stay out of the Golan Heights.) The US has never had a reason to be in Syria, and you are correct they should pull back.
