The stereotypical view is a small, secretive group that does weird things and wears hooded robes and all. But really, it's any group that deviates significantly from sound Biblical doctrine. It can be small groups like Westboro Baptist, large denominations like LDS...even certain Catholic churches can qualify under a broad definition. Correct. The Church of the LDS and the Jehovah's Witnesses have long been regarded as cults because of their heterodox beliefs. And the cult of Mary has dominated the RCC for a long time. At the same time, we need to distinguish between those who promote false doctrines and those who are the victims of false doctrines. The adherents of these cults are frequently upstanding citizens with good moral values.
