Luke 7:23 And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me."

John 16:1 These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.

What are they? Do you know? Will you be offended? Or prepared and understanding His Word regarding the issue?

In His Love,

Suzanne

When John the Baptist was in jail and Jesus didn't come to rescue him he asked, "are You the Son of God or do we look for another?"

He was at that moment, feeling sorry for himself, not realizing the full picture of what God's purpose was.

That's an example of being offended.

When we feel alone or abandoned by God, it is easy t doubt if He is there. That is offense that leads to lack of faith. I think that was the warning. Just to remember that God is on the throne and in full control.

Thank you wordsower, for responding.........I just may not get much back. Actually there was something else there that I was looking for. (hint:offended, has to do with falling away, not enduring).

Jesus is forewarning them of something that will take place when they/anyone truly follows Him. The clue on the study is in the 2nd Scripture reference from John. This was the part I was actually looking into, and the part that I believe will ALSO take place for TRUE BELIEVERS TODAY! Take a look and see what you find. (Although, as I think about it, wordsower, on the whole, John the Baptist's circumstance, was the fulfillment of what Jesus was forewarning them of.)

:whistling:

Suzanne

Jesus was forewarning them, so that they would not be taken by surprise. They HAD to be watching and prepared for the time that was at hand. So must we...............lest we fall into the same fate as the one in the parable of the sower:

Matthew 13:21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.

Luke 7:23 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

Joh 16:1 These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.

Now what did He speak to them so that they would not fall into the trap of offense? We'd better take note, because it will come upon us too!!!

In His Love,

Suzanne

I have not had the time to post back on this subject, but the translation that I use the most for general reading is the origional NASB

John 16:1

16:1 "These things I have spoken to you, that you may be kept from stumbling.

NASB

These things he has told us about are to keep us from taking paths other than what he has set before us. Lucifer can not beat us but he can distract or direct us off into other places and doing things that we should not.

Make sense????

Although you are right otherone, the basis for His forewarning to them, came from John 15, in particular, John 15:18-27, which immediately preceeds His statement, "These things, I have spoken to you".

In 15:18 He begins to speak to them about being different from the world, because of Him/The Word, and exactly how the world will respond to them, because of it.

Are you experiencing it yet??? If not, you might want to ask why and begin to examine and take inventory. He very pointedly speaks to them about coming out of the things of this world, and what begins to take place because you begin to stand on His Word............again, we can go back to the parable of the seeds, and those who endure, even when it gets tough, and those who decide it's no fun being cast out and persecuted.

In His Love,

Suzanne
