I read an article several years ago that had another interesting thought to the Spanish Flue. It killed by the body's inability to fight off that strain of flue and the ones that died mostly from it were very healthy people. As the article thought through the story of that year it also seems that not only did that time period spread the virus from people returning from the war, but it also brought back aspirin which reduces the rise in temperature in people..... which is what kills off viruses and bacteria as a way of fighting them. So as the story goes, we used the aspirin to feel better and in doing so caused our immune system to switch to the directly attack the virus with our blood system and those who were the healthiest and the strongest immune systems destroyed their lung tissue in the process and died. i thought that was kind of fascinating .
